Trying to Get Pregnant

IF Testing & Treatment w/o Jan 22

**This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility, and it becomes a whole new ballgame. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this as an ongoing conversation.

    Diagnosis (if you've been): Unexplained

    Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): TI

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Application phase for embryo adoption

How are things going?: Good! Our application was accepted for the agency we are working with. Now we have some paperwork to do and then we start working on our family profile that will be shown to donating families. I also have an appointment set up for next week with the fertility doctor I’ll be using.

    Any questions?: Nope

GTKY: Who (or what) is your favorite fictional character? This is really difficult. Right now what comes to mind is Percy Jackson, but that’s probably just because I’m watching the new show lol
Edit: Actually H reminded me what my real answer is for this. Definitely Leslie Knope

  • Diagnosis (if you've been): unexplained

    Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): probably TI

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): good question... see below

How are things going?: I got a job! I have not worked since we moved in Dec 2022. It's a temp job for a receptionist at the local H&R block. It's basically to pay for infertility treatments and the new tires my car needed. But my dilemma is this... it's cd1 and I'm supposed to start my job Friday or Monday. I will need to go in my clinic for baseline labs but it's an hour away. So... should I skip the cycle and establish the job or just tell my new boss that I have time sensitive medical appointments to go to??

    Any questions?: see above

GTKY: Who (or what) is your favorite fictional character? Book? Movie? Show?
Book: my girl Scarlett from Lady of Darkness
    Movie: can't think of anyone
Show: Fitz from Agents of Shield

    @brit@britters314 yay for progress!!!
  • @ATolentino89 That's a tough one. The problem is even if you wait a month you're going to have to face this problem eventually-- you will have some extra good will built up after a month of working there but in the scheme of things you will still be new to the job. For IVF ER cycles you typically need to go every other day for ultrasound and labs for a week or two. My clinic had really early appointments, I think as early as 7 AM. Is that an option for you? Or if it's just bloodwork, could you get it somewhere closer to home? Ultrasounds you usually have to get at the clinic, but often bloodwork can be done at any lab.

@britters314 Congrats!! Exciting to be one step closer.

Diagnosis (if you've been): RPL, "borderline" DOR

    Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): FET

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Starting progesterone for FET #3

How are things going?: Fine. Definitely feeling tempered expectations, which is good. Really hoping not to spiral in the TWW this time but... who knows.

    Any questions?: Not really.

GTKY: Who (or what) is your favorite fictional character? I love Leslie Knope also... In no particular order, I also have soft spots for Hermione, "hot priest" (fleabag), Gus McCrae (Lonesome Dove), and Tyrion Lannister.

  • @ATolentino89 My two cents is that if the job is meant to make infertility treatments possible, then long-term it needs to not be a problem to seek treatment while doing your job! You said it’s a temp assignment; how long do you anticipate the job lasting? If it’s long enough that a month would give you a better rapport with your boss to ask for the time off, I get that, though if they turn out to be stingy with it then I don’t know where that leaves you. Maybe it’s best to find out their attitude early on, especially since you could frame this round as a prior commitment that was scheduled before you took the job? Idk. I’m in a somewhat similar situation in that I’m currently interviewing for a new position at my company and it keeps dragging on, and I’m not sure when I’m supposed to tell the new manager that I would need flexible scheduling and/or time off! Ugh, the time commitment required for treatment is so frustrating!!

@bumblebee0210 @britters314 I just finished a rewatch of Parks & Rec! Ben Wyatt is probably my fave from that show, but Leslie a close second.

    Diagnosis (if you've been): Unexplained

    Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): IVF

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Egg retrieval

How are things going?: CD1, yo! (Sort of, I’m on OCPs until early next week to align my cycle with the clinic’s schedule.) Actually just booked my initial cycle visit for next Wednesday and meds arrive this Friday, so suddenly everything is getting very real. I’m feeling cautiously optimistic but terrified of getting my hopes up, especially since I know it’s common for a frost retrieval to not have great results since the RE is still getting to know me and my hormones.

Any questions?: Tips or tricks for finding some zen/acceptance of whatever an IVF cycle may bring?

GTKY: Who is your favorite fictional character? I really loved the arc they gave Emily Gilmore (from Gilmore Girls). I’m a few years older every time I rewatch the series, and I find I identify with her more and more, haha

  • @ATolentino89 Since your clinic is so far, you can ask them if they allow outside monitoring so you can go somewhere closer for some things. At the very least, you should be able to do bloodwork elsewhere if you have anything closer.
  • Thanks everyone! I ended up lining everything up to do baselines today so that I can do mid cycle monitoring and my HSG on a school day so that just pulls me out for the whole day instead of half.  I am lucky that they are already working around my school schedule.
  • @ATolentino89 Woot woot, so glad you found a way to make it all work!!
