Re: January Randoms

  • I picked out the outfit/swaddle/headband that I want for the hospital. Simple yet cozy. My son had a Lou Lou & co knotted gown for his coming home outfit but I actually didn’t like using the knotted gown so I’m going with a sleeper this time. Expensive but it’s a special outfit! I won’t order it for a while though.

  • I had my first pelvic floor pt appointment today. She’s totally on board with my getting in ahead of things and expressed how ridiculous it is that pelvic floor pt isn’t standard in the US. Anyway we went over my history of tearing and past pfpt work, looked at some basic exercises for hip and pelvic floor, and I’ll be back twice before the baby is born and then be more regular postpartum. She said at my last one early April we’ll go over birthing positions that are best for the pelvic floor, so that will be great.
And it’s right next to my favorite bubble tea place so that is extremely providential IMO. Lol.
  • Another random: I was looking ahead to week 24 here on the bump app and it was saying the glucose test is around 24 weeks and to be prepared for it. But I’ve never heard of it being before 26 weeks and my doc even said that testing before 26 weeks can give a false negative because it’s often undetectable that early. Is the bump running on super old medical advice or has anyone else ever had it that early? My second one (since I had an early test from history of GD) is in week 27.
  • @HGRich oh that’s weird! I’ve never heard of it at 24 either. I had mine at 26 with my son because of the way my appts were since I transferred care. This time mine will be around 28-29 weeks. I already have my drink in the fridge…i drink it on my way to the appt apparently!
  • @virtaur the OBs I had with DD and DS sent it home with me, but this one doesn’t. So I get to chug it and hang out at my next appointment. Actually I have a growth scan to fill the time, but I want to know how they’re going to measure a baby who’s jumping around hopped up on glucose. 🤣
  • @HGRich ya that’s how it was at my last one, they sprung it on me and I had to wait in the room. But this makes sense so they don’t have me taking up a room for an hour + haha
& that will be interesting for sure! Hopefully they’ll be able to get all the shots they need!
  • Gender reveal for the families tonight! 🩷🐧🥰

  • @stress_engine that’s an adorable cake!! I hope it was so much fun!
  • It was really fun! A good intimate celebration with family, I would definitely reccomend! And I will forever be obsessed with this cake, lol!
  • @stress_engine aw yay! I’m glad it went well!

Sharing some links of clothes I got for Xmas from Amazon that I have been enjoying!

long-sleeve shirts (I also have the short sleeve from this brand!) comfortable, long to cover the bump well, and cute. size large
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088LXSYZY/?coliid=I3P1VJLLM3NDFK&colid=KTNOD5XDQWG0&psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Leggings, love how they’re not tight on the bump. They look small but the stretch is great. Only issue is that there’s a bit of pilling in the thigh area already but that’s normal for me with leggings. They Wash & dry well. I have size large I’m 5’5 170 lbs

  • @louloumama I totally get it. I feel very thankful that I have clothes from previous pregnancies but I’m also bigger this time and I need some updates. I’ve been able to find activewear from old navy that’s been cheap. Like $11 leggings and $5 tank tops for yoga. They also have maternity shorts on sale and I bought a couple to get ahead for spring. But it does cost a lot. And if you want them to be cute and quality it’s even worse. It might help to remember that if you plan on having anymore kids you’re investing in future you, too.
  • @louloumama I feel the same way. I’ve just never enjoyed clothes shopping, and this feels extra difficult to accomplish. And I can’t really consider it and “investment” because I’m not planning on having any more kids. I’ve got a few pair of leggings and jeans, a couple nice tops and a couple dresses that I hope will get me through.

On a related note, for everyone and everything touting the benefits of swimming during pregnancy, it is appallingly difficult to find a practical maternity swimsuit that isn’t covered in frills and bows that will just create drag when I swim laps. I finally found one online but it still fits kind of weird…
  • oh gosh I’m a regular swimmer and the idea of trying to find a new bathing suit scares me. I have a “sporty” two piece that I wore before being pregnant and now I swallow all my pride and squeeze myself into it. I think I might try to get a similar one in a bigger size for the last few months because it’s actually quite comfy to wear a basic two piece and I just let it all hang out :)

@louloumama, YES!!! I hate it so much! I vented again to my husband this morning.

Finally feeling a little bit better because I fit into maternity jeans now and I bought really cozy oversized sweaters that were huge on me initially, but I really like how they are fitting now with the 20w bump! I still hate how few options I have and I've slowly been buying a few things every week for the past few weeks. Tons of clean clothes in my drawers and closet that I can't wear because I have to constantly keep washing and wearing the same few items. And I've been having to do something different with jeans every single week for the past like 6 weeks!

There are so few options out there too! I looked online at old navy initally for jeans and they were completely out my size. Went to Target and found 1 pair in my size. Forget what kind of style or wash you usually find comfortable too because it's whatever they have. That pair is super skinny style and squeezes my calves! Grateful for my lovely neighbor who let me borrow a box full of her maternity clothes. She is a little bit taller and everything was way too big at first, but finally starting to feel more comfortable in some of it. The whole thing is a nightmare and is a constant source of frustration every single morning that I have to get dressed!

Pregnant people deserve basic comfort and affordability! 😡
  • @stress_engine omg that cake is adorable!!! 😍 It sounds like you had a sweet gender reveal with your families! H and I are keeping ours a secret right now because both of our moms are shopaholics and will drown us in tons of extremely gendered clothing if they knew. We'll be revealing at the baby shower, but it buys us time to get the closet ready lol.

@louloumama I feel this and am 100% behind a tax credit for maternity clothing. I don't usually buy clothes, and when I do they're usually thrifted or secondhand. Which has been impossible to find in my area! I've been able to skate by on a few maternity clothing staples and my oversized sweaters / tees and joggers, but the belly is peeking out so I have to build the wardrobe now 🫢

I'm focusing on clothes that I can wear post bump, so dresses, flowy tees, and yoga pants with foldover waists. And only if they're on sale or clearance lol! My staples are from Black Friday sales at Target / Kohls / H&M Mama. I've bought dresses from the winter clearance at Carter's, thredUp (this one is a bit hit and miss) and pink blush maternity (they label items as post bump friendly, which is handy). I have a browser extension that automatically finds and applies discount codes to my shopping cart - usually end up being 15 to 20% off.
  • Anyone else feeling Braxton hicks yet? I think I am especially at night. They don’t hurt for me but I get a sudden feeling that my uterus is heavy and it feels a bit harder. With my son I had cramping every day once I hit 3rd tri which I felt like was probably BH, they were just painful for me. So crossing fingers they don’t hurt this time around!
  • @virtaur I started feeling BH around 19 weeks with all my pregnancies! With the first one I didn’t know what it was until later, but once 19 weeks hit with this one I was like, well, there they are! It feels wild to feel them in a smaller surface area earlier on and then they wrap around the whole uterus by the end. It’s crazy. They’ve never been painful for me, just pressure. Usually after exercising, or when I’m dehydrated or my bladder is too full. It sounds like you’re having BH to me.
  • @HGRich definitely sounds like it! The same with me, if I haven’t had enough water or my bladder is full I can feel them more. I’m just hoping I don’t get the painful cramping this time. However it’s nice that I won’t have to work through that this time if it happens.
  • I have a maternity boudoir photoshoot booked for March 9th. I’m so excited. I had to sacrifice some things financially to afford it and still can only afford a mini session, but this is photographer I’ve done shoots with before and she happens to love maternity boudoir and I can’t wait! I think March is a good time because the bump will be pretty big but I won’t feel completely uncomfortable for posing yet.
  • @HGRich so happy that you were able to swing it! That’s going to be so fun!
  • @hgrich ahhh that is awesome!!! I have done boudoir but not during pregnancy lol. Did it last time postpartum to start feeling better about my new body and it was really helpful. I need to start looking at options for maternity photos. I feel so behind this time - with my first I was so on top of everything and now I feel like I have done nothing lol.
  • Sorry I have been so MIA guys - started nursing school and between that, work, and kids, I have had no free time. But I will try to be better about being more active!
  • @bserena glad to have you pop in!! I can imagine you’ve been very busy!
  • @bserena yes! I did my first one postpartum, had another a couple years later, my third one was after a 30 pound weight gain thanks to antidepressants, and this one will be maternity, so all of them have been to celebrate how much my body has changed and I firmly believe that’s what it should be for, not a gift for your partner. That’s just a bonus. Haha.
  • Soooo I had my 24w appointment yesterday where they did another scan because we hadn't gotten to see babies profile at my anatomy scan. We got the profile (finally after 30 minutes and them almost giving up lol) and everything with baby looks great. However, my amniotic fluid is low. I guess the "normal" is 5-25, with the middle range being best. Mine was at a 7. So still technically normal, but low enough for my OB to be worried. She asked if I had been leaking (which I don't think so) and told me to pay close attention and drink a crap ton of water over the next week and they are going to do another scan next Monday to see if it has improved/worsened/stayed the same. I am trying not to freak out, but I can't help myself and did google searches and of course got myself all worked up. So... here is to hoping I just haven't been drinking enough water and next week everything looks great.
  • @bserena low normal is still normal, as you say. But that would make me feel anxious too. Glad they’re gonna look again Monday. Keep us posted.
  • @HGRich agreed! Still in the realm of normal thankfully so I am stressing less lol I will definitely let you guys know Monday.

@virtaur they didn't mention it at all at my anatomy scan so not sure! I should've asked. Also I love the movements!!!
  • @bserena if you have a my chart or something like that you can usually look at the ultrasound reports on there under test results!

I am sooo cranky all of a sudden. My toddler is being a lot this morning so that’s probably why lol just feeling overwhelmed for a bit. But H put together the stroller. It’s big but I like it. Kinda bummed that the front seat isn’t a little bigger. My son is tall so I hope he lasts in there until baby is big enough to take that spot and he can use the toddler seat/stand.
  • I don’t know if this link will work honestly but I saw this yesterday and it blows my mind that our babies are roughly this size. 😭

  • That’s incredible! I have a friend whose baby was born at 23 weeks and was so tiny when he was born! I didn’t fully realize how very premature he was until I passed 23 weeks recently. (And if anyone is concerned, that little guy just turned 5 and is doing great!)
