3rd Trimester

Induction - Baby measuring too big

Hi!
I’m 38 weeks pregnant, and my baby is already weighing 9.1 pounds / >98th percentile.
Doctor says she recommends considering an induction asap, while midwife recommends waiting and try to give birth naturally.
Apparently measurements are not very accurate either.
I really don’t know what to do!
Any advice or previous experiences?
Thank you  <3

Re: Induction - Baby measuring too big

  • Not sure I have advice, but I know plenty of people who have been told that their baby was larger the 9lb and they ended up being something around 7. Listen to your gut with what you think is best. The good news is that 38 weeks is full term. But keep in mind that lots of women also give birth to 9-10lb babies vaginally and without complication. I do think our medical world is a little induction-happy. Ultimately, whatever you choose, you should feel peace because it’s your baby and your body

  • Please do not induce for "size" o was told I was having a 10lb baby. She was 8lbs 12oz
  • Personally, I wouldn’t induce for size. Your body grows the baby you can deliver, not to mention the measurements are not 100%. My daughter was over 8lbs and 21.5inch long, so not small. Delivered naturally.
  • I had a similar experience with my first. I also had a complication that added to their recommendation for induction. I was very nervous and ultimately we decided to go for the induction. It was a really positive experience and my baby was measuring at the size they said.

Trust your gut and what makes you feel comfortable! Best of luck!
