Pregnancy safe fitness app?

7 weeks here with my first. I loved working out from my living room pre pregnancy doing Pilates, strength, soulcycle, and running but I’m scared to continue doing any of those. I do well following online classes, any suggestions on fitness apps that are pregnancy safe?

Re: Pregnancy safe fitness app?

  • You should double check with your doctor but you’re likely fine to keep doing the types of exercise you have been doing. I don’t know about apps but there are some YouTube channels that have prenatal or pregnancy-safe workouts that I like. Pregnancy and Postpartum TV YouTube channel has lots of prenatal Pilates. I also like nourishmovelove and BodyFit by Amy for strength training (they both have pregnancy-safe playlists).

  • Many apps these days have a pregnancy setting or pregnancy set of workouts. To me, they seem more keyed towards women who really haven't been working out but want to start something during their pregnancy. I always found them too easy and not really beneficial for me personally.

Generally, you're fine continuing workouts which you've already been doing. I've known women who attended kickboxing classes up to the day they went into labor. As the baby bump gets bigger, some runner moms have found certain belly support belts helpful so that they can comfortably keep running.

Myself, I continued weightlifting through a pregnancy. I listened to my body. Some days I needed more breaks than others. Some days I had to back off on what I was doing.
  • Thank you for the reassurance. First time mom and just cautious about everything.
  • Nothing wrong with being cautious as long as you don't let it rule your life. It's hard when everything is so new.

Just remind yourself that your body was designed for this, carrying, growing, and birthing a child. Women have been doing this for generations and, until fairly recently, without the technological and medical advances available to us today.

There are a lot of opinions out there on EVERYTHING. Read and research from all different viewpoints then make your own decisions based on what you consider an acceptable level of risk for yourself.

  • Hi! Im also 1st timer here and anxious about being able to keep active… I’m very active and want to be able to continue to maintain at least something throughout the pregnancy! So far I’ve been able to keep up with my workout durations and number of days per week but have definitely scaled back on distance running and pace and intensity of spin. I have the peloton app for subscription only (have a different type of bike) and there is a filter for pre/postnatal workouts. I like that you can filter by time, focus area, level, etc. if you want an app that you can easily access I def recommend it just for the classes!
  • I’ve been enjoying the app Every Mother. Great values and a variety of course options.
  • I have been using the Sweat app since I was pp with my first and am pleased they now have pregnancy programs! I’d highly recommend it, I personally love Kelsey Wells’ weight lifting programs and she has a pregnancy one I’m about to transition to now that I’m in my second trimester.
  • My doctor told me that as long as it was something I was already doing pre-pregnancy I can continue doing it. I’m 13+5, I ride bmx and mountain bikes I’m still hitting jumps and riding just as I would before although I’ve elected not to ride downhill this season. Your body is really good at telling you when it needs a break (idk if you’ve felt your stomach cramping after bending over a bunch but that’s my sign). I’ve also read just to be aware of how out of breath you are getting during workouts, we shouldn’t be doing anything that makes us out of breath too much. Following for fitness app suggestions though!

That’s exactly what I did, and I found mad muscles reviews incredibly useful. The reviews touch on everything from the app’s ease of use and training variety to billing transparency and customer service. You’ll see both praise and critique, which makes it much easier to make a confident, informed decision.
