This is a thread for all the expecting mamas who will be 35+ when their babies are born.
1. Age Now / Age at Delivery
2. FTM / STM+? If STM+, is this your first AMA?
3. How are you feeling?
4. Has your doctor/midwife mentioned AMA to you? Will there be any AMA specific testing/visits/ultrasounds?
Re: AMA Check-In (Dec)
2. This is my fourth baby, first time being considered AMA.
3. I am not sure what to expect since I wasn’t AMA with my other babies, but I like the idea of having this thread to talk about it. My mom had me when she was 41 and had no issues. And I had a baby 18 months ago, so I feel like nothing much should have changed since then, but 35+ gets so much hype as being AMA is does make me nervous that I am at higher risk for complications.
4. I have no idea since I haven’t had my first appointment yet. I imagine it will be mentioned but I’m not sure if extra monitoring or testing will be recommended.
1. Just turned 37 yesterday/will be 37 when baby comes
2. TTM here. Have an 11 and 9 year old. Definitely my first AMA.
3. I’m feeling nervous and excited. People around me that know think I’m nuts. My first two pregnancy’s and deliveries went well so I’d HOPE it’s the same this time, but I have also been diagnosed with fibromyalgia since then, am in a much larger body, and suspected Lupus, so we shall see.
4. My GYN mentioned AMA but I don’t see an OB until January 19th. Tomorrow I’ll be 6 weeks. I told them when I called I was 37 but the receptionist didn’t seem phased lol, so no idea if I need extra testing!
1. 37/38
2. TTM, I currently have an 11 and a 2. I turned AMA during my last pregnancy
3. I’m mostly feeling excited. Trying not to worry, though I def tested a few days in a row to be sure lines were getting darker. The only thing I’m concerned with right now is trying to get into an endocrinologist. Last pregnancy we discovered I have hashimotos. It’s under control without medication but when pg my thyroid levels dip and I need meds. My previous Dr left the practice and now I’m struggling to find someone with an opening.
4. Nothing yet, but I haven’t had my first appt yet. We talked AMA at my first appointment last time, god it killed me to see “geriatric pregnancy” listed as my “condition” on my chart after every visit. That phrasing was never said, but it was in the chart. I hear they’ve updated the chart language to AMA now. If I remember correctly I wound up with two or three extra ultrasounds last time due to AMA, but there was nothing else special.
2. TTM, currently have an 8 and 6 year old so it’s my first AMA
3. I’m excited, but also kind of freaking out!
4. No one has mentioned AMA to me, but my first apt isn’t until January 10th. I had a fetal
maternal hemorrhage with my first, so I had a ton of extra ultrasounds with my second so I’ll assume that will continue this time too.
2. I’m a FTM
3. I’m so excited. I did fertility treatments for a year (all unsuccessful) but my doctor always told me I was young compared to many IVF patients. It’s been a long road to get here.
4. I haven’t had my first appointment yet. I’m sure they will mention something.
2. I already have 3 daughters age 17-12-10. This is my first child AMA
3. I feel pretty good.
4. I went to the doctor before I even decided to try a have another kid. They didn’t seem concerned at all and didn’t mention any specific testing to be done but I know the NIPS will be an option as with everyone else. I have gone to my first visit yet since getting a positive pregnancy test.
So far I’ve only had mild bloating/cramping but I’m only 4w4days. I’m mostly just nervous. I had an ectopic treated with MTX between baby 1 & 2. Then I had another one much more traumatic this past May- right after my birthday and Mother’s Day- I needed to have emergency surgery to remove my left fallopian tube.
FTM
Symptoms right now are pretty standard I think…mild cramping, bloating, mild headaches, nausea very brief and goes away after about a min or two.
I’m 4wks5days?? Will be 5 weeks on Christmas.
Getting first US at 12 weeks, but blood work and NIPT testing at 10 weeks.
Congratulations to all! 😊
2. STM. My first baby is 14 months old and was born to me at 41yo. Both pregnancies have been through reciprocal IVF with my wife.
3. I'm feeling tired and I unfortunately heartburn is kicking up like it did in my first pregnancy. I'm also feeling hopeful that this pregnancy might go as easily as my first one did. I'm also having cravings with this one, which I never did in my first pregnancy.
4. I haven't seen my regular OB yet... They don't schedule out until 8 weeks or so. My fertility doctor works with AMA all the time and didn't mention it specifically. I much prefer "AMA" to "geriatric."
1. 43/43
2. STM. I have a 9 year old son, also born in August. I was 34 when he was born via CSX. Both my pregnancies have been natural and total surprises.
3. I feel pretty normal with exception of some mild fatigue, gas, ligament pain, and breast tenderness. I had some nausea but only for one day (no nausea with last pregnancy).
4. I see the OB on the 9th at ~10 weeks. I kind of assume they will want me to see a perinatologist at least once.
Had my first apt 1/12 they made me chuckle cause essentially they called me old and fat. 36 years young and just over 200lbs at 5'3" 10w3d 3 third pregnancy. I get to do ALL the tests first up is a glucose screen between now and 12w
This kiddo will be a c/s delivery first week of august.
That's the plan for this one, too. I teleheathed my primary doc because I'm on low dose meds for Hashimoto's and we want to keep an eye on my levels. She ordered a dating ultrasound and labs for me since we're not sure the date of conception and we want to be sure if there's 1 or more. If there's 1 kiddo, the plan is the same as last time (consult periodically with the midwife). If there's more than 1 kiddo, then we'll hire the midwife for regular checks and care.
