1st Trimester

Hypothyroid, Slow HCG and baby measuring small at 6/7 weeks

Hi all! This is my third pregnancy after 1 missed miscarriage (blighted ovum) and 1 successful pregnancy. Because of my history and lack of nausea or extreme symptoms as was in my last pregnancy, this time OB did hcg levels which are in range but rising 32% and then 16% at which point we stopped drawing them. On u/s 1 which I thought I was 6 weeks, measured 5w4d. On u/s 2 (different machine perhaps lower quality but was transvaginal) at what I thought was 7 weeks, baby measured 6w0d, CRL 3 mm which I was told was very small, and HR 102. We have a repeat u/s in a week, but I’m unable to be excited at all because I feel things are looking grim for another miscarriage. This pregnancy I got a new diagnosis of hypothyroidism and was started on treatment in between ultrasounds. I’m hoping this helps baby’s growth and HR. And experience with similar?

Re: Hypothyroid, Slow HCG and baby measuring small at 6/7 weeks

  • Hey, just wanted to let you know I’m in a similar boat. My HCG is rising pretty much the same as yours. Started with 23% then 43% then 20% then 14% and only up to 2400 so I’m also worried. First ultrasound at 6 weeks baby measured 5 weeks + 6 days no heartbeat yet. Second ultrasound at 7 weeks, baby measured 6 wk 3 days with heart rate 102. I am trying so hard not to stress, but having a hard time. I keep trying not to google but I find myself failing at that and then only discovering mostly negatives with that occasional “there’s a chance” or “it worked out for me” I feel like I have no control, and I don’t. I know this is all up to God but I’m having a hard time letting go of the stress. I am praying for you and I both and these sweet babes. If anyone reads this, please leave the positive stories!

  • You both likely just ovulated later than you think. As long as baby is continuing to grow, you shouldn’t need to worry.
