Trying to Get Pregnant

IF Testing & Treatment w/o Jan 1

**This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility, and it becomes a whole new ballgame. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this as an ongoing conversation.

Diagnosis (if you've been):

Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched):

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?):

How are things going?:

Any questions?:

GTKY: Any new year’s resolutions for 2024?

Re: IF Testing & Treatment w/o Jan 1

  • Diagnosis (if you've been): RPL, "borderline" DOR

Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): waiting for FET cycle to start

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): FET

How are things going?: OK. It was nice to not be super hopped up on hormones over the holidays. I sometimes forget how great it feels. I can't believe most people feel like this all the time!

Any questions?: Anyone here had multiple failed FETs of PGT tested embryos? We are not there yet, but I'm wondering what the protocol is if this next one fails. Do they do testing? I'm guessing the history matters for this-- how many failed transfers, and also whether there has ever been a successful transfer.

GTKY: Any new year’s resolutions for 2024? Lots of "goals", some work-related, and some just meant as a small push to do one-off things I want to do anyway (like get a reading chair for my office), and some meant to encourage me to do more of the things that are working (go to 100 barre classes, read 50 books)

  • @bumblebee0210 I haven’t done any FETs yet, so I don’t know anything about the protocols or testing. The success rate of FETs is around 50% even for seemingly perfect embryos so statistically you should have about the same number of fails as successes. I’m guessing they might want to do other tests if you’ve had a lot more failed transfers than successful ones.

    Diagnosis (if you've been): Unexplained

    Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): TI

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Orientation for embryo adoptions next week

How are things going?: I’m really confused. I have recently been hoping for some sort of sign to help me decide if we should definitely do the embryo adoption or if we should just keep waiting for another foster care placement. Today I found out the agency we are licensed with is closing and we’ll have to switch to another agency if we want to still foster. So idk if that is a sign that we should just say we are done fostering or if this will be an opportunity to switch to an agency that could fit our placement preferences better. It’s just a really unexpected development and a lot to think about.

    Any questions?: Nope

GTKY: Any new year’s resolutions for 2024? I don’t normally do resolutions. I did set my reading goal on Goodreads (35 books), so I guess that counts.
  • @bumblebee0210 Ooh, a reading chair sounds so nice! I swear half the back problems I have are from all the awkward positions I get into trying to get comfy with a book in my hands.

    Diagnosis (if you've been): Unexplained

    Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): Benched

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): PGT-M test development

How are things going?: Generally feeling good about 2024. Started acupuncture last week, and I think I’m into it! Realized I have been so thoroughly steeped in western medicine that I have a hard time believing that my liver has been overtaxed by all my worrying, but doing my best to suspend disbelief because WOW that is the most relaxed I can ever remember feeling.

    Any questions?:

GTKY: Any new year’s resolutions for 2024? Committing to a full year of bullet journaling. I am the kind of person who would love to have a written record of my experiences but because perfectionism end up giving up on journaling every time I miss a day. Hoping the part-day planner, part-diary format here will serve me well and make it easier to stick to it!

  • @bumblebee0210 after my 1 failed FET I had done an RPL panel and the biopsy to check for endometritis and to confirm the timing of the transfer. I doubt the timing is the problem if it worked once for you. Otherwise I'm not sure what else they'd check besides maybe blood flow?

@britters314 mmm that's a tough call! Maybe a sign will make itself known after your orientation?

@aisleofviewtwo I'm glad your acupuncture went so well!

Diagnosis (if you've been): immune and clotting issues, hungry for progesterone lol

    Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): TI

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): my FW lined up with the holidays so we got some really good timing in! Currently in the TWW and could test tomorrow at 8dpo

How are things going?: things are good. The holidays went well. Excluding the part where we had a pretty big fight on Christmas day. I don't even remember what it was about. We are pretty solid in our relationship now due to something else that I won't go into too much detail about but DH was chatting a lot with a friend about her relationship with her boyfriend which has since massively blown up over the weekend. She has helped DH realize some things that has really improved our connection in a matter of days.

    Any questions?: none

GTKY: Any new year’s resolutions for 2024? Be on my phone less. I'm also determined to get back into yoga!

  • @britters314 I don’t know how time- or labor-intensive the process is for onboarding is at a foster care agency, but maybe looking for a new one is also part of figuring out what’s right? Perhaps go through orientations for both embryo adoption and fostering, and see if you get a kind of gut reaction as to which one feels best for your family at this moment?
  • @aisleofviewtwo I had the exact same reaction to acupuncture. I was like I objectively don't believe in this, but I feel so good. When I first started it I would feel relaxed for days afterward.

@inthewoods23. That makes sense-- I have already had the whole RPL workup, so that part is done. My doctor said if another transfer fails they would likely do a hysteroscopy just to make sure there was no new scar tissue rolative to last time. She said she thought it was pretty unlikely though-- really just luck, as in her experience euploid transfers have about a 60% success rate.

I also managed to get a hold of my actual list of embryos in storage with grades, etc. and it was really interesting. Details in spoiler for any IVF nerds.

    * TW mention of successful cycle*
Over 8 cycles, we managed to get 15 total blastocysts. The least we got was zero, the most was 5.

Of the 15 blastocysts, 4 were day 5s, and 11 were day 6's.

Of the day 5s: 3 were normal, and 1 was a high-level mosaic. 0 abnormal.
Of the day 6s: 2 were normal, 2 were low-level mosaic, and 7 were abnormal.

My successful transfer 2 years ago was with a euploid male day-5 5AB+
My unsuccessful transfer was with a euploid male day-6 5BA-

That's so nuts! the day 5s were *so much better* than the day 6s. The grading also correlated very strongly (though not perfectly) with euploidy.

One nice thing is that the lab actually screwed up and didn't transfer the best embryo the last time. It's because I did some more retrievals this fall, and though they only resulted in one euploid, it was a 5AA day-5 (basically perfect). But when they set up the paperwork for the transfer they were only looking at the old embryos in storage, hence transferring the day-6 5BA-. So, the next transfer will actually have a higher-graded embryo.

My lab also recently changed it's policy to not prefer day-5s over day-6s, and just go with the best grade euploid. It would be interesting to know if day had an independent effect, conditional on euploidy and grade, but apparently they think it does not.

    After this transfer, I'll still have 1 day-5 4BB, and 1 day-6 5AB- euploid, plus 2 low-level mosaics (both day 6, a 5B-B and a 5A-B). I probably would not transfer the high-level mosaic or the abnormals.

Thanks for coming to my ted talk! (I am a data nerd, so I thought I would share in case any of you are too...)

  • @bumblebee0210 man I miss all the fun data talk! Fascinating. I think my clinic always went based on the grading and didn't consider whether an embryo was day 5 or 6. If I recall from my research back in the day, success of day 5 vs day 6 isn't much different. Day 7s have a significantly lower success rate but I've only seen one person who said they had embryos their clinic let grow to day 7.

  • @inthewoods23 @aisleofviewtwo Yeah I am trying not to think about it too much until we’ve had the orientation for embryo adoption and we’ve talked to someone about how transferring foster agencies is going to work. Both of those happen next week so at least we don’t have to wait long to get more information!
  • @inthewoods23. Right? Where are @acleverusername and @optimistgardener when you need them?

  • @bumblebee0210 I am so sensitive to my hormones. My estrogen is high right now so it's either "I feel so pretty" or I am crying over EVERYTHING.
@aisleofviewtwo I am going to look into a journal like that. My hubs got me a Hufflepuff journal last year and I didn't write in it because it's so pretty and it's formatted like that.
    @inthewoods23 both really good goals!

    Diagnosis (if you've been): unknown

    Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): TI

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): canceled the HSG because we went overboard on Christmas and the copay was more than we could swing right now so just monitored medicated cycle

How are things going?: better today. I had my monitor appointment to check folicules and had a 16mm, 14mm and 11mm two on one side and one on the other. My lining was just at threshold and I just felt... dejected. I told the PA that I was just down and didn't feel like I responded as well this time. I also had high hopes last cycle it being right before Christmas when I would have gotten the positive. It's only my second cycle of assisted reproduction but it's been 4 years so I'm kind of down about it.

    Any questions?: nope

GTKY: Any new year’s resolutions for 2024?
Hubs has been shoved to the back burner for these past 8.5 years so it's about him and doing what he wants and helping him reach his goals this year.
  • Anyone else been having issues with the app? 🥴
it won’t let me copy paste so excuse my lack of formattiNg

    1. RPL, low Amh, ama, some auto immune issues
    2. medicated cycle this time! We finally got insurance straightened out.
    3. it’s supposed to snow like hell here. Everyone is acting like they are excited, I’m just cold.
We’ve all been sick here for like a solid month. My husband also is getting over shingles which has been dramatic and annoying. (Man cold times 100)
if we don’t have success this cycle we are moving to ivf next month, so that’s exciting.
GTKY- GET AND STAY PREGNANT 😂😒🫣

@bumb@bumblebee0210 I had a friend who had multiple fail, and there ended up being something autoimmune going on. So if you do get there, yes, there is things they can continue to look into!

@atolentin@ATolentino89 yes I feel that. My husband needs to focus on his mental and physical health this year. He pushed it aside in favor of our family recently but it’s not a choice anymore.

@aisleofvie@aisleofviewtwo I really love acupuncture! I did it for nerve pain relief a few years ago and it helped so much!

@britters314@britters314 I’d see what else is out there for agencies. If you don’t feel like there is anything that is a good fit- the sounds like the sign to focus on embryo adoption for now.

@inthewoods s@inthewoods23 sometimes I think you need a fight to clear things up. I’m sorry about the timing but glad it moved you to a more solid place.

  • Let me share my thoughts. I guess acupuncture can help us to relax. I tried this before and after my IVF treatment back in 2020, and it really relieved most of my pain. Worth trying!
