1st Trimester

Symptoms of week 5

Hi everyone, I went for my first scan yesterday and we saw a the gestational sac and yolk sac at 4w6d. I have reached 5 weeks today and I am experiencing mild cramping - I keep running to the toilet every 5 minutes to check! I experienced a miscarriage back in September around this time, so understandably my anxiety is through the roof. I wanted to ask a couple of questions:

1. Did you experience cramping week 5? Mixture between sharp random pains, and then a dull ache?

2. Has anyone else gone for a scan this early and seen the same? I know I should feel relieved that my pregnancy seems to be developing, but somehow it’s made me more anxious that it won’t develop further.

Any words of advice would be very much appreciated - thanks so much!

Re: Symptoms of week 5

  • i have had cramps starting at week 5, i’m now 11 weeks and still having occasional cramping. i did address it with my doctor and she said it can be normal, as long as there is no blood discharge or if the cramps are not worse than menstrual cramps. if they are then she said to go to the er because it could be a miscarriage. however i haven’t had any bleeding (thank God) only cramping, and i’ve been going on 11 weeks now :). sending good vibes your way!

  • I’m 5 weeks with my 2nd and I’m cramping. I remember with my 1st child I cramped pretty much the whole pregnancy
  • That’s not possible to see yolk sac at 4w6d. You have to be further along than what you say you’re! I don’t know if you might be confused that’s definitely impossible
  • Hey! It's going to be natural to have cramping throughout the pregnancy. And they usually are mild cramps, because your body is making room for a baby.

I’m a first timer and I’m having pains on one side near my hip since once I hit 5 weeks but it’ll go away towards the end of the week, can anyone else relate?
