We had our first ultrasound appointment today. We were expecting to be 8 weeks and 2 days. We were thankful to hear a heart beat, which was at 160. We were a little thrown off they told us the baby was measuring 7 weeks 3 days instead of 8 weeks 2 days. We were told to come back in two weeks to check the baby’s growth.
This had my husband and I in a bit of a panic. We talked to three different professionals in the office, first time parents so we were those people, and they all told us this is common. We felt like the way the news was delivered was dismissive and insensitive to our concerns. We are still a little scared that something isn’t going to be right when we go back in two weeks. We aren’t sure if the delivery of the news was poor and made us freak out or if this new should have us nervous.
We were excited for today, and the news caught us off guard.
Re: 6 day difference in baby’s growth and due date
I know it’s scary but they definitely should’ve been more sensitive and gentler with their explanation.
Going back at this point isn't because they think something is wrong, they just need to get the most accurate date. This is really for the end- if you have complications and they're considering inducing they don't want to do it too early, if baby is born early they need to know how early so they have an idea of what support they'll need, if you're overdue they don't want to let you go over 42 weeks (or 40 if you're "geriatric"), etc.
