GTKY: what’s a family activity you can’t wait to experience with your little one? Ooooh, really just the little things! Reading books together, park days, etc.
  • @mar11btf I’m with you on the “sleep is a hit or miss.” I can sleep one night 8 hours straight and feel fantastic. Then the next night wake up a dozen times with nightmares or to pee. 🥲
  • 19+6, EDD 5/9

    TTM

Baby is the size of a banana, as of tomorrow.

    Team blue

Upcoming appointment: 1/3 for growth ultrasound with the mfm. Then 1/10 for general OB.

Feeling: not bad. Sleep is definitely iffy. Lots of nightmares. So that’s fun. Reflux has improved since I started taking Pepcid.

Rant: I wanted to be able to take the cone of my dog two weeks post surgery because she keeps smacking into people and walls with it. But as soon as we did she started gnawing on her stitches. So back on it goes. Sigh.

GTKY: I have to say now that my kids can read I miss reading to them. (Now we read chapter books together but it’s not the same). I’ll have another to read to. Also looking forward to splash pads and library story times.

How are you feeling?: Physically doing okay, but often tired. I wake up every two hours to pee every night. Emotionally, I'm struggling a little.

Rants/Raves: I'm struggling with how I look. I've always been heavy and spent my whole life trying to lose weight, and now, even though I know I'm supposed to be gaining weight, I don't like it, and I don't feel like I look pregnant, just fat. And why is it so hard to find maternity clothes? and the ones I do find tend to fit me weird. I also just found out my mom has Covid and influenza B, and Christmas plans are all up in the air, as we normally stay when my parents for the holidays. My MIL doesn't have a spare room where we can stay either, and hotels become more complicated because we have our dog.

GTKY: I'm looking forward to taking the baby to the lake, and the zoo, and seeing them experience the joy and wonder of things with new eyes.
  • @kamikazezoomy pregnancy is such a weird time of wanting to celebrate what your body is doing and also the disillusion of how much it’s changing. Also yes, finding clothes is hard! But I’m hoping to be able to afford some form of pregnancy boudoir photography to celebrate my body. And also reminding myself that the societal expectations on women are so unfair. Like in ancient mythologies and old artwork, the ultimate example of femininity was curves and belly and thighs and body dimples. And the old fertility goddesses of other cultures are big with a big belly. Just because current society says one thing doesn’t mean it’s fair or true. We can celebrate what pregnancy does to our bodies instead of having contempt for them when we remind ourselves that what’s important is US and BABY, not society. Or comparison. Or anything like that. Our bodies are so beautiful.

As a practical note, I have found old navy maternity to run small, especially in the shoulders which is weird considering how much boobs change, and Motherhood maternity pretty true to size if not a touch big. I don’t have a lot of experience with other brands but I have been thankful to be able to return Amazon orders really easily if they don’t work out. And reminding myself that brands are so inconsistent that it takes some trying out and finding out what works and blaming the brand, not my body.

    Team blue/pink/green: pink 💕

Upcoming Appointments: had one today, next one is in Jan around 25 weeks

    How are you feeling?: good!!

Rants/Raves: rave is that anatomy scan went well and my BP was normal today. I got my glucose drink so that’s in the fridge. I guess my office has you drink it on the way in which is fine with me. I got to choose lemon lime so I was happy about that. I haven’t gained any weight since my first visit but baby is growing appropriately so the doctor didn’t seem too worried. I’m overweight as it is and I know I’ll gain most of my weight in third tri.
I also received all of my PP pads so I’m good to go on those. Of course that means I’ll probably have less bleeding this time but I can’t complain about that!
Rant is that I hate how much anxiety I have over making phone calls. It’s so hard for me to just do it. So frustrating.

Questions: do you guys want to do a birth wishes thread soon?

GTKY: what’s a family activity you can’t wait to experience with your little one?
I really want to do family photos. We’ve never had any. It’s so expensive. Other than that I’m excited to do anything. Holidays etc. And of course the first time we go visit my family on the east coast.
  • @kamikazezoomy I’m sorry about your mom being sick right now! That really stinks :(
and i get what you mean about body changes. It can be hard to experience and it’s okay to feel those feelings. I put maternity leggings and shirts from Amazon on my Christmas list so if I like them I’ll be sure to add some links on here!
  • Hi all! I intro’d and then the board was slow and life got super crazy over here. We had a vacation to Disney, a large home improvement project, another month long family trip, and my youngest has had bouts with croup and RSV. Anyway, going to try and jump back in, hope that’s ok!

    EDD / Weeks + Days: May 7 /  21+1

Baby is the size of a (an): can of soda

    Team blue/pink/green: green

Upcoming Appointments: Had my anatomy scan today! Baby was measuring on track and everything looked good.

How are you feeling?:  I’m feeling generally good this pregnancy, BUT I just got diagnosed with GD about a week ago. UGH. I’m not beginning anything until after Christmas but I am super dreading it. I had GD with my first, then didn’t have it with my second and I was really hoping I wouldn’t have it this time  We’ll need a GD support thread for sure!

Rants/Raves: Rant - so many germs going around right now and I’m so congested. My household is just getting over RSV. Rave - I’m having so much fun with my kiddos doing all the holiday things - gingerbread houses, festive snacks, Christmas music, etc.

Questions: Anyone else diagnosed with GD?

GTKY: what’s a family activity you can’t wait to experience with your little one? I do the “25 days of Christmas” with my two daughters - fun outfits, activities and snacks all throughout December and they love it, can’t wait to include baby #3 in it next year!
  • @chickaboom3 I had GD with my second baby and with this kid I passed my first glucose at 11 weeks but I’ll be doing the usual glucose at 27 weeks. I honestly expect it given that I had it once and I’m also at an increased risk for being over age 35. So if I do I’ll be commiserating with you. Sorry you gotta deal with an early diagnosis. That sucks.
  • Hi @chickaboom3 ! Glad to have you back! I’m sorry about the GD diagnosis & sicknesses though!
  • @HGRich fingers crossed for you to pass the next one too! Misery loves company but I don’t wish GD on anyone!

With my second, I passed the early test and then when I tested at 28 weeks, I failed the one hour but passed the 3 hour. This time around, I failed at the early test (around 12 weeks), but we were traveling for a few weeks so I didn’t end up doing the 3 hour until last week and I failed. I was able to put off the visit with MFM until after Christmas, so I’m basically just pretending like I don’t have it until then  hoping it can just be “diet controlled” - the most frustrating part for me is all the extra appointments, who has time to do to 2 nst’s a week?! I certainly do not. And testing blood sugar 4-5x a day? It’s such a hassle. Both of my previous children have come out under 7 lbs with no blood sugar issues at all so I’m not really worried about GD causing actual health issues, just the major inconvenience that comes along with the diagnosis. Also, I don’t like that it means automatic induction at 39 weeks, but my first daughter came at 38+3 and my second daughter came at 37 weeks exactly, so I’m assuming I won’t make it near 39 weeks anyway. Sorry for the word vomit, this topic gets me fired up!

@chickaboom3 no, it totally does me too. It’s such a hassle. I had no actual concerns with my son either. He came out 7lbs and everything was looking fantastic right before his induction. I actually didn’t mind being induced since I was already 90% effaced and almost 4 dilated. It went really smoothly. I guess if my body hadn’t been ready at all I might have fought to wait longer, but my daughter came naturally at 38+5 (started labor at 38+3) so I wasn’t exactly surprised my body was already making good progress.

But YES to the nuisance of it. I was diet controlled for my son other than my overnight numbers being like barely too high and taking glyburide overnight. In retrospect I suspect if I’d had a more accurate monitor it probably would have shown zero problems with my fasting numbers and no oral meds needed. I’m determined to get a monitor this time, if I have a diagnosis, with a higher accuracy rating. I already asked my doc if I could pick which one to be prescribed and she’s all for it, so that’s good. But it’s still the absolute worst to do all the alarm setting and finger pricking and carb counting and extra appointments. I’m definitely thankful that with my son and with this kid I’ve gotten to enjoy Christmas goodies first!

Enjoy Christmas yourself! And fingers crossed you can stay diet controlled and no issues. It’s nice to have done it once and had no issues at least.
