June 2024 Moms

Opinions on home birth/ hospital

Hi Ladies! I’m so excited to welcome our fourth baby in June!
I am contemplating having a home birth. It would be my first home birth, I believe I am a good candidate, all my births have been uncomplicated vaginal deliveries, and my last was unmedicated with no issues. I have a meeting scheduled with a midwife to discuss the services and all of that but I wanted to hear from moms who have actually had that experience, and get a real feel for how you experienced it, if you recommend it, pro/con, just need to hear from someone who’s been there.

I really appreciate anyone out there willing to take the time to help me out and sending you all best wishes on your pregnancy journey 🤍🫶🏼

Re: Opinions on home birth/ hospital

  • I don’t have experience, but I will be doing a home birth this time after 2 hospital births. Very excited (and a little nervous), but everyone who has done it seems to love it.

Also, I spoke with a midwife who told me that risk of complications goes down with each birth until you get to 5, then it starts going back up. So yes, you’re probably a great candidate :)

  • Oh wow! Best of luck on yours!!  <3 thanks for the insight!
  • Doing a homebirth here! Excited for it! I really love my doula and midwifery team!
  • Best of luck to you and your baby! Is this your first child or first home birth? I’m so intrigued by the whole home birth process it’s nice to finally get contact with someone who’s doing it too. I love my midwife as well and am excited to experience a different kind of birth, more one on one with her and have my children more involved in my prenatal visits and all that fun stuff.
  • A bit envious of you all! I think I would love to do this but unfortunately not an option fo where I live. Looking forward to hearing about the experiences in 6 months :)
  • My first was a hospital birth but my second was a home birth and I loved it! The midwives were so much more involved with the whole process starting with prenatal care. Then they were the ones to actually attend the birth. The birth itself was amazing. So much more relaxed and quiet than the hospital. And they were super attentive and monitored me and baby so if anything started to look scary at all they could get us to a hospital (which never ended up being needed). Then postpartum was soooo nice to just be at home already. They provided way more postpartum care than hospitals do and they came to me for the first week! They checked on baby too so I didn’t have to leave the house the first week. I highly recommend! I’d for sure do it for baby three if our insurance would cover any of it! Hope this helps!
  • I really needed this thank u! I’m so happy you had a positive experience, I’m excited and nervous. Did you do any hypnobirthing to help with pain ? It was a water birth I assume?
  • Homebirths are beautiful, as long as you research the laws regarding midwives inside your country and be really careful when selecting a midwife. For example, in the US the midwife policies are rather complicated, there are so many different types of midwives that it can be unclear which ones have received the proper medical training. Or worse, whether or not they should be practicing at all, as not every state seems to do a proper background check. I love Youtube's Mama Doctor Jones, and she posted an amazing video on the topic that's called "There is a VERY serious midwife policy problem in the US...". She has a second channel called MDJ on which she covered the trial of a US midwife, those video's are also very enlightening and educative, though they're not for the faint of heart as that midwife did not end up in court without reason.
