letrozole side effects

Hey ladies,

I'm on my second round of letrozole/femara at 10 mg (with 3 rounds prior at a lower dose).  Last cycle I just had a slight headache, no big deal. This time though I'm having headache, super achey back and leg muscles and my skin is really sensitive to touch (even just clothes brushing against skin hurts).  I'm not allowed to use advil so I'm taking tylenol which is really only helping to take the edge off.  I'm concerned because the symptoms are worse today than they were yesterday and I still have 3 days of pills left.  I don't want to get even more miserable!

I have a msg in to my RE, but in the meantime wanted to see if anyone here had a similar experience.  We committed to doing 3 rounds on this protocol but if each round gets worse, I'm not sure I can or should do another.  Did anyone have symptoms like this on letrozole?  Did it get worse as the days went on or stay steady?  Did successive months get worse, was it hit or miss, etc?  Thanks for the feedback!

Re: letrozole side effects

  • Hey there!  i'm so sorry to hear you're feeling so crappy.  My migraines are triggered by Femara but I've never experienced the other symptoms you're having, but everyone reacts to things differently.  I also found that I didn't react the same way each cycle.  It's so bizarre.  I'm sorry I can't be of more help but wanted to tell you to hang in there.  Sending hugs!

  • Sorry this is causing so many problems!! When I am on letrozole I have a headache like the whole time I am on it and a couple days after. Something that sometimes helps me is to put a heat pack on the back of the neck. It at least takes the edge off the headache. And I get kind of tired ok it. Those are really the only problems I have had with the letrozole. Hopefully they figure something out.
  • So sorry! That sounds awful. I get a bad headache but it gets better as the days go on. Mine is the worst with the initial shock of the pills so days 3 and 4. Good luck! I hope it goes away.

  • Oh that's no fun:/

I found letrozole gave me new fun symptoms every month - the headaches, hot flashes, night sweats, emotions, twitchy muscles, etc.

Saying that, your symptoms sound similar to when I had an allergic reaction to Amoxycillin... Maybe best to reach out to you RE for reassurance?

    Hang in there!

I got a really bad headache around day 3 or so. I also got a really bad upset stomach and intestinal issues about an hour after taking it every morning. I was on 5mg.
  • It can have some serious side effects.  About 10% of people have the painful joints, and that always got me.  It felt like arthritis in every joint of my body, including my fingers, hips, everything.  It happened every time.

  • I did 5 rounds of letrozl it seemed my symptoms were the same the headache was awful, hot flashes, joint pain, sensatve skin... and others for me they didn't get worse or better.... when I went to the RE and told her about the side effects she said there really were not supposed to be any with letrozl, I advised her she was wrong.. she even asked it it as clomid and not letrozl because of the symptoms I was describing.... good luck.... hope you feel better.
  • @Szalayshana That's so strange that your RE wasn't aware of the side effects.  Letrozole is primary used by cancer survivors (breast cancer and ovarian cancer) to prevent remission.  It works fine for most, but some have serious side effects, and have to make a hard decision, whether it's worth it to have the protection from remission.

My first month I produced 2 good looking follicles, but did not get pregnant. The second month I took the same dose of medication and produced 1 good follicle. I am happy to report that I am pregnant! I have PCOS and am very pleased with the outcome - https://onlinecheappills.com/letrozole.html
  • Experiencing side effects like headaches, muscle aches, and skin sensitivity during Letrozole use is not uncommon. However, the intensity and progression of symptoms can vary among individuals. It's crucial to communicate your concerns promptly with your reproductive endocrinologist (RE) for personalized advice and potential adjustments to your treatment plan.
