How are you feeling? Tired! Insomnia is killing me - I’ll be up for 2-3 hours every night. The worst was 4 hours a couple days ago.
Raves/Rants: Raves (a few) - nursery is done! My mom is flying in today (to be my caretaker/gatekeeper for visitors); really looking forward to home cooked Korean meals!
I love all the adorable newborns on the announcement thread. For rants - nothing new - still in-law dilemmas
Questions: STM - anyone elected for early induction? Thoughts? I’ve met with most of the OBs at the office that I go to and the one that I’m most comfortable with is on call for 12/22 and not until the new year. She gave me the option to schedule an induction but not sure if my comfort level outweighs the risks.
How are you feeling? Tired. Big. Waddly. Ready to be done being pregnant but wanting him to get all the time to develop inside. At my last appointment, they said I'm already 1cm dilated and 30% effaced.
Raves/Rants: Rave: I had asked my family a while back on whether or not they would throw a sprinkle since there are some things I need for boy #2, but they said they'd just do them as Christmas gifts. Well, some ladies in my church group reached out to my husband a month ago offering to throw me a surprise sprinkle at a restaurant and it was so sweet. Then my husband's work is going to throw us a little shower next week, so I feel more prepared and less burdensome on my family for the holidays.
Questions:
@ahrob135 after seeing my sister go through 6 inductions bc her babies didn't want to evacuate on time, I personally wouldn't want to do induction just bc the process can be a lot more difficult than if your body naturally goes into labor. But I get wanting to have a particular dr when you go through it, so maybe that would outweigh any difficulties!
How are you feeling? Not great, also having insomnia and my whole core just feels tired and tight. Getting only able to sleep for maybe an hour before waking up. I keep getting what feel like early labor contractions that stop and start every few hours for the last week. It keeps raising my hopes then I’m disappointed when they go away- never expected to be so excited for labor 😆.
Raves/Rants: I think I found a doula! Was talking about it to one of my customers and she brought up a great one that she contacted personally for me! So so relieved- I love my husband but every time I talk about birth he gets super nervous and I can just see the panic!
Questions: None at this time
@ahrob135 I am not looking to do an elective induction at this time. Personally I am less concerned about the delivery doctor because for my hospital there is no guarantee you get your standard OB for the birth. It is just whomever is on call. But depending on hospital policy I do understand why you would consider it to be with someone you trust!
@ahrob135 with my oldest I went through an elective induction at 39+2 my doc offered it to us and said that it was completely safe. We used Cytotec also known as misoprostol it basically is a small pill that softens the cervix! We did about 4 rounds of that and walked up and down the halls and it was about a day in a half until my son was here. The process went well I also used it for this last non elective induction I had. We used pitocin at the very end! And it was a small amount
Upcoming appointments: Really hoping for an appointment at labor & delivery, stat Otherwise regular OB on Friday.
How are you feeling? Pregnant. Why am I still pregnant?! My first was born at 38+5 (aka today) and my second at 37+0. I have zero interest in this being my longest pregnancy!!! I have had contractions every 30ish minutes for 1.5 weeks. Plus a lot of cramping low in my pelvis. It's not particularly painful, but the sheer duration is exhausting and causing back pain that isn't going away and I can't get comfortable in any position. I am feeling cranky and done!
Raves/Rants: Rave: I'm as ready for baby as I'm going to be. Rant: I'm still pregnant
Wanted to pop in and give an update for our little one! EDD/Weeks + days: Born 12/5
Baby is the size of a(n): She's back up to her birth weight already after having some trouble with her bilirubin levels.
Team Green/Team Blue/Team Pink: Pink!
Upcoming appointments: She goes back on Thursday for weight/color check and I have to make my 2 week postpartum checkup still.
How are you feeling? Really good! Definitely tired and this whole new parent/business owner thing has been rough, but we're figuring out the new normal. The dogs LOVE her, especially our younger Dalmatian - they're so gentle and just want to be around her.
Raves/Rants: So happy to have this little one here with us! I've been a little anxious with the jaundice/bilirubin because it was around 10 when she was born, then went up to 16, so they have me supplementing her with formula to make sure she's pooping enough. Since doing that, her color is better and she's already back up to her birth weight. Today is the first day since she's been born that she won't have to see a doctor!
Questions: I've seen some other groups do this - would anyone want to start up a Facebook group to keep in touch? I'm not really sure how to get that started, but thought it might be a cool way to stay connected.
This was a very good lesson in "be careful what you wish for". Less than 6 hours after posting above I was holding a baby. She arrived 1 hour after we parked at the hospital. I don't think anyone knows exactly what happened, but both the midwife and the OB said I was at 2cm when I arrived. The midwife appeared quite confused when, 45 minutes later, she informed me "I think the baby is coming now". And boy, did she come She even came at 12:45pm at 38+5 - 1.5 hours EARLIER gestation than big brother (who officially remains my longest pregnancy)
Upcoming appointments: had an appointment yesterday. First cervical check (FTM). I was 1cm dilated, 0% effaced, -3 station. Honestly, I’m very happy and excited about that. (I’m aware that this isn’t insane progress or that I can stay here for awhile) I am proud that my body has been able to open up on its own, and that means I have 1cm less to go !! Midwife performed a membrane sweep but I haven’t had any changes or new symptoms. But I’m hopefully that even if it doesn’t put me into labor it will make some progression towards it.
How are you feeling? I feel great ! Really blessed and grateful. As I stated I have no symptoms of labor so at this time i still plan on going through my day as usual: 3 mile walk, gym (it’s leg day 🔥), cleaning, meal prepping, and doing my birth meditation for labor.
Raves/Rants: I don’t have any. Everything is smooth sailing or I just don’t give a f*ck about it lol.
Questions: none at the moment !! Hope you all are having a good week !! We are all so close to meeting our little ones (if you haven’t already)
Upcoming appointments: Friday, 38 week check up with non stress test
How are you feeling? Ready to pop! Lots of movement still, no change in Braxton hicks I’ve had them since 18 weeks. Just wanting to hold this little munchkin outside my body 😂
Raves/Rants: tons of pelvic pressure makes it really hard to stay mobile… but trying to walk a little bit each day and bounce on the yoga ball a bit. Last visit the baby was in perfect delivery position so 🤞 they decide to stay that way!! I’m hoping at my 38 week they will check to see if there is any dilation at all just honestly for my own sanity. I’m avoiding induction like the plague despite them saying they wanted to at 39 weeks
Questions: has anyone been induced and not had an epidural… I’m really fighting the induction because I know it is soooo much more difficult and I REALLY don’t want an epidural so trying to avoid the need for one…
@dmcg17 happy to hear things for the most part are well post partum, happy to hear the pups are taking to her! I’m sure in a few days the bilirubin levels will improve! I’m not on Facebook but such a lovely idea
Upcoming appointments: I had my weekly checkup this morning. Everything looks good — baby can come anytime!
How are you feeling? I’m so ready for him to be here! It’s hard being patient and waiting especially after seeing all the sweet announcements! We are hoping for an elective induction on Dec. 23 because the doctor we really want to deliver will be on call. I haven’t felt any contractions, no bloody show, or anything to indicate labor has started so I have no idea if anything is happening down there. My doctor will probably check my cervix at my next appointment.
Raves/Rants: I still have some last minute things I would like to get done around the house before he arrives. We are just playing the waiting game — not sure if this is is our last weekend to get stuff done or if we have more time. I just want to knowwww lol I started drinking raspberry leaf tea today to see if it helps with anything.
Questions: How are the new mamas doing? Is anyone doing anything special to try to get labor started naturally?
@dmcg17 That is such a great idea! I would love that for the support and connection with other new mamas! How do we get it started?
@mayghen18 I got induced, for my first. The bad contractions only started when they broke my water, after about 2 hours of those (full induction was 20 hours) I had to get an epidural to lower my blood pressure and allow progress (my body got so tense from pain, there wasn't progress) One hour after the epidural, baby was born... So I haven't done an induction without epidural but I think most of it was able to be handled...
@mayghen18@chelleylin I had almost the exact same experience with my induction almost a week ago. Induction started 8:30 am, the kept uping the dosage of oxytocin, but nothing was really happening. They broke my water around 4:30pm. Within an hour I was having strong contractions, for how long I couldn't say. Finally they offered pain options, I took the epidural immediately lol. Once I got that it was so much better. I was at 10 cms by 9pm, baby was born 9:55pm. The worst part of recovery has been pain in my tailbone. But on day 6 now almost all my swelling is gone and my tailbone feels much better.
@mayghen18 I also had an epidural with my induction. I was fine and didn't even really feel my contractions until they broke my water and then things got intense quick! The nurse recommended I use the tub to soothe my back, so I tried that for about 20-30 minutes, but the contractions got so bad that I needed the epidural. The only thing that sucked was that by the time I was actually ready to push, the epidural had pretty much worn off completely and they didn't want to give me any more.
