December 2023 Moms

Labor Signs

Hi all. I am just about 40 weeks now. I’ve had my membranes swept three times, I’ve lost FOUR mucous plugs (one per week the last 4 weeks and I’m talking large, large amounts), back pain, period cramping, intense lightening, pelvic pain, etc for over the last three weeks and still no progression with contractions. Any mamas out there gone through something similar? I have done all of the old wives tales to induce labor (minus the castor oil I don’t want to do that). I think my exercise ball is about to flatten out on me. & I genuinely have no idea what to think or feel anymore. I’m discouraged at this point. Just want some guidance. Thank you!

Re: Labor Signs

  • I feel you! It seems like it’s a mental game at this point to just be patient but it sooo so hard 😥

  • I’ve been doing all of the exercises and walking and eating dates and resting but from one week to the next I had no change in dilation or effacement. I KNOW baby will come when she’s ready but i feel almost compulsive about trying to do all the things to help her along. Especially because I don’t at all want to be induced or even have to talk about booking it with my midwife, who was already hinting about it at my last appointment
  • I have been having the same thing! Keep getting excited when I get pretty strong cramps/ back pain with pelvic pressure for a few hours then it just fades. I was 1cm dilated at 36w and refused to get checked again in case it hasn’t changed. I have been walking, bouncing, sitting with hips open, eating dates, etc.  I just keep reminding myself that baby will come when they are ready… but this waiting/ thought of induction is horrible.  We will get there!! I have been doing double mediations to try to stay relaxed so this baby knows it’s safe to come out!
  • @benderisgreat12-23 SAME!! Although I haven’t been checked yet. I think I’m going to finally let my midwife at my appointment on Tuesday (39w1day) to see if I have anything going on. If I am, I’m going to have her do a membrane sweep to see if things will get started.  I told my midwife as well that I want to wait until 41.5 weeks until induction although she kept asking me about scheduling a day. I want to allow my body to do this on its own and I’ve been doing all the things as well with absolute no signs of labor. But I keep reminding myself that it could start at any minute and he will come when he is ready. I love meditating and love to hear that you’re doing it !!  Our time is coming !! We just gotta wait a little longer and it will be at the most perfect moment ❤️
  • As far as induction methods, if yall are in the mood to physically at all, my ob said that sex is the most accurate of all the wives tales. Won't put you into full on labor, but definitely help thin out the cervix and get things moving along, so might especially be helpful if you're already dilated and effaced some.
  • Has anyone looked at the “purple line” indicator for early labor/ cervical dilation? How you found it to be useful or accurate?
