Re: Weekly Panic Thread -- 12/6

  • New mom panicking about breastfeeding.
Little guy had tongue tie, which we fixed one week in, but he is now used to the bottle and formula and fights me for a while when I try to have him latch. When he does latch, it's painful for some or most of the session.
I've tried to get my supply going through pumping, which feels like double the work (pumping to bottle feed) but even though I'm pumping an ok amount, this two weeks wants to eat 4 oz at a time, and I can't keep up with that!!
He bit me bad the other day, as if I wasn't sore enough... Going to be seeing another lactation consultant today and hoping she has better ideas than the nipple shields or pumping to bottle feed.

  • @chelleylin Good for you for keeping up with it! Was your appointment helpful?

I'm personally not panicking, but getting a bit nervous. I've had semi-regular contractions (every 5-20 minutes) for 2 days now. They are painless and not a big deal. EXCEPT I've noticed they are starting to cause back pain that isn't going away. Due to my unique circumstances, my only pain management options during labor are breathing techniques or a c-section :# I haven't even started yet and I already have back pain. HOW am I going to get through labor?! :'(

  • @chelleylin I'm trying to remember, have you breastfed before? I want to give you encouragement if you haven't but also don't want to seem like a know it all if you have 🤣 so just know that my intentions are good here. It doesn't surprise me that baby is taking more from the bottle. Bottle fed babes usually eat more because it's easier work. One suggestion I have is to pace feed your babe. I'm sure you can easily find a video on how to do this. But I'm hoping the lactation consultant can help you get baby on the boob more easily. ❤️

  • Thankfully I am feeling less panicked this week, finally was able to take a tour of the labor ward and the nurses/ rooms are so nice.  Mainly I am just exhausted and want this baby out!

If I’m panicking about anything it’s that I physically do not feel up to working anymore. I am in industrial environments with a lot of standing/ walking in steel toed boots. Due 12/23 but going to use up a week of PTO and start leave on 12/18 and hope this baby comes close to my due date so I don’t eat into too much of my maternity leave before he arrives.

@chelleylin way to stick with it! I hope the lactation consultant is able to help! If not, always remember fed is best and you are a wonderful mother❤️
