Product Spotlight: Strollers

Thought I'd pop another one of these product threads up on the board!
- What stroller brands/models have you all liked or disliked?
- Which ones are good light-weight ones vs. heavy-duty?
- Which are good options for compatibility with (infant) car seats?
- If you are a baby-wearer, did you need or want a stroller?

Re: Product Spotlight: Strollers

  • I have had a Chicco bravo trio, a baby trend jogger, and a Thule double jogger.

The Chicco steers like a dream and the one hand collapse was great until it started acting not quite right. It wasn’t truly broken because it still collapsed pretty easily but it started taking two hands. Overall a solid choice especially if you choose a keyfit seat.

Loved my baby trend jogger. Zero complaints.

The Thule double jogger is great but I’m not sure it’s worth the price, especially since it comes with no accessories like snack trays. I’m curious if I would have been just as happy with a baby trend double for probably half the price.

I LOVE baby wearing but I still used my stroller a lot depending on the situation.

  • I love baby wearing and plan to do a lot of it, but I have also always had a stroller. Especially as they get older.

I've had two or three other strollers, but the only ones I've had anything good to say about are the BOBs. I've had a double and a single, both purchased 2nd hand and they have been worth every penny.

That said, I need one this time! I also have smaller cargo room for the first time. Idk where to start! It needs to be gravel/dirt roadable.
  • My favorite hands down is my baby trend jogger. It still works beautifully 7 years later. I briefly had the graco sit and stand double stroller and hated it. It was huge and it didn’t turn nicely. I also tried the bumble right double jogger and it was ok. It was still really large and DS1 who was 4 at the time seemed too tall for it. He is very tall though (95th percentile). I also baby wear but the stroller is convenient in many situations especially post C-section for those first apts for baby. Or big outings like a zoo day when you’d be carrying baby, diaper bag, snacks/lunches/drinks etc for yourself and any bigger kids.

I am thinking about a stroller wagon this time but idk that itd really be necessary when my bigs will be nearly 5 and 8 when little sister arrives. Anyone have one?
  • Any recommendations for double/twin strollers? Probably side by side. We live on dirt roads, but I don't know that I would use it much on those. I'm thinking more for shopping, school pickups, walks in town, etc. I've always been a baby wearer rather than a stroller user, but with the twins I think I may need to change. 🤷🏻‍♀️
I'm looking at the Bumbleride Indie Twin.

I'm also planning to get one of those double frame strollers to use with the bucket seats - I was looking at the Baby Trend.

  • @hedgepig we bought a secondhand Bugaboo Donkey2 before our 2nd was born and I love it. It is side by side, can be adjusted down to just a single if you ever need that, fits through every store door I have every taken it into, has sturdy wheels, babes can face inward or outward, reclines alllll the way, shades can be unzipped to come all the way down and completely cover baby. Cons are that it is a little heavy and still bulky when broken down. I can fit it in the trunk of my 2013 Honda Civic just fine- but no extra room for much else. I still love it and plan to use it with our 2 under 2 this time around. You can also attach a standing board for an older child to ride on. I have people stop me everywhere I go asking me what kind of stroller it is. They also last forever. Ours was manufactured in 2015 and still rides like it’s brand new. I bought an adapter so our clek liing infant seat would click in but it also has a basinet option for the seats.

@hedgepig I had the indie twin. I think I would have gotten more use with it if my kids were closer in age/size and it wasn’t 2020. It would probably be great with twins or close in age kiddos now. They’re kinda spendy but I found it very cheaply on marketplace.
  • @night_nurse I wanted the Bugaboo too until I saw the price tag. @kmw611 The Indie is expensive enough, although it looks pretty good compared to the Bugaboo! We live too rural to get many good deals on used stuff locally, but your recommendation made me go check Mercari and eBay and actually there are a ton on there! I figured the shipping would be prohibitive, but 🤷🏻‍♀️ So I may be able to get a used one after all!

I live too rural for there to be much in the way of good used deals as well. My work around is to enlist a friend who lives in the city. As long as I know exactly what I want, like a specific stroller, she can usually score one for me and then I just pay her back. That is my hope this time anyway!
  • @farm_mama I've been thinking this too. There are lots available in the city, but it's too far to make a trip. I don't have friends down there, but my brother and SIL visit there often, so maybe I can recruit them?

  • @hedgepig we live close to a big city but i still ended up buying our bugaboo off someone in a different state in a city my cousin lives in!
  • My fav double stroller for the first year was the joovy twin roo stroller. It made a HUGE difference for us. Clipped right in, so easily.

after that i used an older double stroller i had, then i had a cheapie umbrella double stroller and that was my fav thing ever. Super compact, easy to get through doors and places, and super tiny to store!
  • I tentatively have a new recommendation - the Joovy caboose Ultralite. This week we are going to Disney and universal and will get to try it out with my 6 year old and 4 year old, but it comes with a universal car seat adapter so I’ll be able to use it with the new baby and a sibling. I just put it together and gave it a quick spin with both boys in my living room (combined weight about 70 pounds) and it maneuvered surprisingly well. It also comes with a snack tray, and a parent tray and the car seat adapter included which is great because a lot of strollers charge extra for accessories. The front seat can recline, and the back bench has a 3 point harness, and there is an optional seat you can purchase to make it a regular tandem double. All for $200-$250 on Amazon.

  • Stroller question! (I feel like such a newbie...) anyone with a BOB know if you can use it in reclining mode for a newborn/infant? We bought a new Graco car seat, and then a used BOB, not realising that the model we got was so old it is not longer compatible with the car seat. My husband did a decent job of rigging the seat to the converter that came with it, but it's enough of a pain that we probably won't do that all the time. If we can use it without the seat when she's very little, then we would just do that when using the stroller instead of a carrier. Thanks!
  • @cioccolata16 my understanding is you shouldn’t use the reclining seat in a jogger until baby is 6 months old.
