(Only If you know already!) Team blue/pink/green: will hopefully know soon!
Upcoming Appointments: Wednesday I have an ultrasound and will get the NIPT test done. This is also the appointment that we will sign up for all the hospital stuff which seems crazy early!
How are you feeling?: Honestly it varies from hour to hour. Sometimes I feel like myself and have more energy/less nausea. Sometime I am tired, sick, and have a major headache. I can’t seem to find any reason for the changes haha
Rants/Raves: Raves: I am so happy to be back home and back in our normal rhythm. My husband was traveling for work the week before Thanksgiving and then we traveled to the in laws last week. It’s been exhausting and I am so ready for some routine before Christmas.
Questions: I have my first maternal fetal medicine appointment this week. They called and said my OB referred me but I honestly have no idea what to expect. What does a MFM doctor do that an OB doesn’t do? Why do I need both?
GTKY: how did you meet your SO? We met when we were freshman in college. I was friends with his roommate and so we hung out sometimes. I was not looking for a relationship but he eventually won me over and we have been together ever since ❤️
@sbaby2023 Usually you get referred to an MFM if any part of your pregnancy is considered high risk. Most midwives/OBGYNs only handle uncomplicated pregnancies. I had to see one in both of my previous pregnancies because I have an autoimmune condition that flares up during pregnancy and needs steroid treatment. Depending on the situation you may see them throughout your pregnancy, or just once or twice. I have my first MFM appointment next week to check on the babies and get a screening ultrasound.
(Only If you know already!) Team blue/pink/green: TBC
Upcoming Appointments: Seeing the MFM for a consult and ultrasound next Monday
How are you feeling?: Still tired. I say that every week lol
Rants/Raves: We told our kids and immediate family over the Thanksgiving holiday. It was nice to let the cat out of the bag, but I also feel nervous now that we’ve told all these people. It somehow seemed safer when it was a secret.
Questions: Can they tell the sex on an ultrasound at 12-13 weeks? We can’t do NIPT and I really want to know!
GTKY: how did you meet your SO? We met in college. He came around my apartment to hang out with one of my roommates in September and by the new year we were together. Took 8+ years for us to finally get married and we just celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary this summer. Still my favorite person and my best friend ❤️
(Only If you know already!) Team blue/pink/green: N/A, still not sure when we want to find out
Upcoming Appointments: 2 weeks
How are you feeling?: Lots of heartburn, stomach is looking rounder, but still not sure if it's a bump, and haven't felt this picky about eating since I was a kid which is pretty difficult mentally and physically.
Rants/Raves: Not much right now, just hanging in there. Rounding the corner to second trimester which is a milestone! Not very hopeful that I will magically feel amazing about pregnancy though. 😆
Questions: Does anyone actually love being pregnant? Or is this a lie that women tell to themselves when they are no longer pregnant? Only thought about it because I recently got the question myself and I thought it was a little odd to have been asked.
GTKY: how did you meet your SO? College sweethearts! 💕 We met participating in a dance competition together against other student organizations. 💃
@maggiemadeit typically not until 16-18 week US. So hard to wait!
@stress_engine I felt like last pregnancy I did love a lot of it! Second trimester was glorious- energy all back, baby movements, cute bump. I did miss it after delivery. There were some pains- peeing all the time, being so huge (twins) and rolling over in bed wasn't easy haha. But weighing things out there was so much more to love than not. However my mind set isn't there yet this pregnancy 🙃 Hoping that feeling returns in a few weeks!
(Only If you know already!) Team blue/pink/green: Team…… Pink. I was super shocked as this will be our third girl. I was convinced it was a boy, hubby wasn’t surprised. We said this was our last but it’s hard sometimes to think that. And no idea what to name her 🤪
Upcoming Appointments: two weeks
How are you feeling?: not too bad actually just tired. Nausea is mostly gone. Still have sore breast. And also severe pregnancy brain, I have the memory of a walnut.
Rants/Raves: I found out a few days ago because I felt like garbage that I have Covid. 🤬 After we went to three different thanksgiving! I didn’t feel bad at all until returning from the last one. Thankfully nothing to worry about with the baby and I am starting to feel better but restless with quarantine.
Questions: Anybody experience occasional heart fluttering/palpitations when pregnant?? I am asking my OB. Years past I mentioned it to my GP (they only happened few times a year) and was told to monitor. But happening more frequently now.
GTKY: how did you meet your SO?
His mother was my high school teacher. My SO is 4yrs older then me. I saw him if he had to grab something from the school for her. We met the first time the summer before my senior year at a competition his mom/my teacher led, (his family used the trips every year as vacay) barely spoke. We didn’t really start talking until right after I graduated and I was doing my last competition for my HS (it was at Disney world so his whole family went). Once I got back home we started dating. That was almost 14yrs ago, married almost 10yrs and soon 3 girls later. 🥰
@farmfamily21 I wonder if your heart fluttering could be COVID related? 2 days before I tested positive my heart rate monitor on my watch was going crazy. They did a pretty large study on this and found that heart rate fluctuations were a common early symptom. I hope you feel better soon! And congratulations on your girl!
(Only If you know already!) Team blue/pink/green: leaving it up to my husband but I think green
Upcoming Appointments: Dec 21
How are you feeling?: tired still! It never really went away with my first and I don’t expect any different this time around
Rants/Raves: rant my 13 month old has been sick and wasn’t sleeping (but I think us finally on the mend!) rave: I’m off to Mexico tomorrow! Booked a spontaneous babymoon and I’m so excited! It’s a short trip (Wednesday to Sunday) because I didn’t want to be away from my son for too long
Questions:
GTKY: how did you meet your SO? High school sweethearts went to different schools (about an hour apart) and started dating when we were 16. We got married in 2020 and have been together for a total of 10 years
(Only If you know already!) Team blue/pink/green: finding out soon with NIPT
Upcoming Appointments: blood work today for NIPT and thyroid, US in 3 weeks
How are you feeling?: still pretty bad. I have days that are okay, but some that are really rough (nausea, vomiting, so tired). The heartburn decided to kick in this week so that’s also fun.
Rants/Raves: rave: had a great Thanksgiving break. Went to our cabin with friends, who we told and they were so happy for us. I also felt pretty good for a few days.
Rant: none of my jeans fit well now and I’m just ready for the symptoms to let up.
Questions: I’m torn between sticking with my midwife clinic or switching to an OB clinic. The biggest difference is that the OB clinic would do more monitoring (extra US at 32 weeks to check placenta and weekly NSTs towards the end). The midwives don’t do any additional monitoring since other than age, I’m low risk (as of now). The midwives did say I can request NSTs at the end if I want. What would you do?
GTKY: how did you meet your SO? Via mutual friends. His best friend is the brother of one of my good friends. We met a handful of times and I had a crush, but we finally had a real conversation at a wedding and started dating after that. We just had our 10 year anniversary.
How are you feeling?: Overall terrible. I feel okay in the morning, but mid-morning until bedtime, I'm fighting nausea and exhaustion.
Rants/Raves: My husband coaches HS football, and his team is playing in the state championship this weekend, so that's exciting. Also, all the praise hands because football season will be over for us this weekend, and I won't be solo parenting as much.
Rant: The state of my house is discouraging. I have no energy to keep up with housework. My husband is helping out some, but the mess is driving me nuts.
Questions:
GTKY: how did you meet your SO? He and my cousin grew up in the same small community and were friends for years. She actually had a huge crush on him in high school, and I got tired of hearing her talk about how hot he was. When I was in college (and my cousin was over her crush), she kind of set us up, and here we are.
Married: May 2012 DS1: May 2016 DS2: Jan 2019 Baby #3 EDD: 6/18/24
(Only If you know already!) Team blue/pink/green: Team pink
Upcoming Appointments: December 1 - first appointment with midwives
How are you feeling?: Physically continue to feel better though have random bouts of a sour stomach still. Mentally though I'm suddenly freaking out about whether I'm crazy for having a second baby - and particularly so close in age to my daughter. I also have a lot of anxiety about switching from OB to midwives even though I think it's a good decision. Change is scary nonetheless!
Rants/Raves: Rave - finally being back home after 2+ weeks in California; Rant - It's so cold here!
Questions:
GTKY: how did you meet your SO? On a dating app, so no interesting story
@stress_engine I've had relatively easy pregnancies (last time and so far this time) and I still don't like being pregnant. I would have moments where I missed being pregnant afterwards, but I still knew I didn't actually like it. As you get further in and can feel the baby move, I do think that is special and unique, but still wouldn't say I like it overall. Maybe there are people for whom that part outweighs the parts that are no fun?
Upcoming Appointments: OB Appointment next Tuesday, didn't actually meet OB at first U/S (is that normal?)
How are you feeling?: super bloated, feel like I'm showing some, especially in the afternoon. was really nauseous last weekend, but it seems to have leveled out
Rants/Raves: told my family at thanksgiving, they were so excited!
Questions: has anyone gotten Nuchal Translucency testing? Does it include an U/S?
GTKY: how did you meet your SO? We met through an online dating app (coffee meets bagel) in August 2020
@hrjackson7 the nuchal translucency is a measurement they take during the 12 week ultrasound. They essentially measure the amount of fluid behind the baby’s neck. Too much fluid can (but doesn’t always) indicate a chromosomal abnormality. My son’s NT was borderline high and he turned out perfectly, so it can cause some unneeded anxiety for many who get false positives.
How are you feeling?: Still fatigued but getting more use to it. Also very bloated and have had some relief by wearing pregnancy leggings during the day and nightgowns to bed. Have also been feeling the nausea but refuse to be sick 🤢 so having lots of peppermint tea and ginger chews.
Rants/Raves: Rave- Got to tell my Nana this weekend and she was so happy. I love getting to tell people bits at a time.
Questions: None
GTKY: how did you meet your SO?
Met online through eHarmony in 2020 and we had so much in common with each other. Have been married for just over a year now.
@hrjackson7, ultrasounds and Dr appointments are two separate appointments since the equipment for the scan will not necessarily be inside of your doctor's clinic. Mine were scheduled back to back since I only had to go downstairs at my dr's clinic to do the scan, but maybe your doctor didn't have a time open on the same date around the same time. No biggie, your doctor will review your scans and let you know anything if needed at your appointment. Typically only 2 scans are covered by insurance for low risk non-AMA pregnancies, one being early on in the pregnancy so they probably also wanted to get you in sooner for that. I was curious about the NT scan since I saw others mentioning it here. My doctor said that it's a specialized scan, only one place in my area does them. My pregnancy doesn't necessitate having one, but I don't know all of the reasons behind why it would sometimes be needed.
(Only If you know already!) Team blue/pink/green: We will find out tomorrow!
Upcoming Appointments: Dec 14th
How are you feeling?: Symptoms have been very mild compared to the last pregnancy. So overall, pretty good. LO and I are fighting a nasty cold though this week. Looking forward to when it’s over! I think we both have cabin fever
Rants/Raves: LO started crawling last week! And she loves to cruise and get into everything! This age is so fun. She also started clapping. And SO and I are convinced her first word will be kitty. It seems to be the only word she’s interested trying to copy right now.
And looking forward to Fall term ending. I have so many baking recipes that I’m eager to try.
Questions: Any tv show recommendations? I always wake up between 12-2 for a little snack and sometimes enjoy watching a show.
GTKY: how did you meet your SO? We met while working at a salmon processing plant in Alaska. Since we both worked long hours, 7 days a week in a really rural town, our first dates consisted of coffee in the break room after work. Otherwise we probably would have never crossed paths, since he’s from the east coast.
@stress_engine The NT scan is a screening ultrasound that looks for soft markers of genetic issues (trisomies and other potential birth defects). In the US the NT scan used to be standard before NIPT was available. Now most places in the US recommend the NIPT, which gives more information with better predictive value than the NT scan. The NT scan isn’t as reliable because it’s based on ultrasound measurements. Insurance usually will cover one or the other. I am getting an NT scan because NIPT doesn’t work with a vanishing twin, but this is kind of an odd situation. I have also heard that other countries, like Australia, still use the NT scan, so maybe depends on where you are. But same, there is only 1 MFM who does these scans where I live.
(Only If you know already!) Team blue/pink/green: I want to know so badly! I have the 6th marked on our calendar because we should have our NIPT results by then.
Upcoming Appointments: 1st OB Dec. 7
How are you feeling?: Great. We have a cold running through the house, but other than that things are good. I'm way less sick this time than last time.
Rants/Raves: Excited to get a Christmas tree, even if we only decorate the top half this year
Questions:
GTKY: how did you meet your SO? I was working an overnight security shift at a racetrack a couple hours away, and just before the end of my Thursday shift (6:30 A.M. Friday), I noticed somebody awake and outside. Everybody was still sleeping or in their campers at that hour. I pulled up in my police cruiser and rolled down the window.... "Sup, Bud?" He got up from the picnic table and leaned onto my passenger window. He was tall... and handsome... and funny! We had the easiest conversation of my whole life right there for 30 minutes until I was repeatedly called in on my walkie to change shifts. I didn't want to go, but I did. I thought I missed the opportunity of a lifetime, but I found him again two days later at the end of my last shift for that weekend. We exchanged numbers and I hung out with him and his friends for the rest of the day. We had our first real date two weeks later with his friends on their boat. We drove the boat up to a waterfront restaurant, then stopped at a sand bar. He twirled me in the water, and the rest is history. We still love going to the track with the same friends I met that morning. They're like the godparents of our marriage.
@stress_engine I love being pregnant more when I'm not actually pregnant. That said, there's a lot that I do like. I think my favorite part of my last pregnancy was that it got me back in shape, coincidently. I'm hoping that happens this time too. I usually love a good coffee with a hearty amount of creamer, but it's so repulsive when I'm pregnant. I think all those creamer calories is what does it.
How are you feeling?: like garbage. My kids got the stomach bug after Thanksgiving, and I just got over the stomach bug yesterday. But morning sickness is still kicking my butt anyway. I've been MIA here just because of how sick I've been feeling... Hoping it slows down soon.
Rants/Raves: loving having all my Christmas decorations out. Feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the gift wrapping I need to do lol.
Questions:
GTKY: how did you meet your SO? Freshman year of College! Met him end of August, started dating end of October. We've been together for 17 years, married for 13 years.
@maggiemadeit it's possible to see the gender at 12 weeks! But not likely. Maybe they will give you a guess?
@stress_engine definitely a love/hate situation for me. The morning sickness is miserable, but I love feeling baby move.
@farmfamily21 yes! I did in my last pregnancy, after having covid. I had it my whole pregnancy, and saw a cardiologist. They said I had a heart murmour and my one valve was not closing as well as normal due to increase of blood volume during pregnancy. After delivery it resolved itself. This pregnancy I have had a few flutters again, so I'm assuming this is a condition that I'll be dealing with again this pregnancy.
@saltedcaramel518 here you on the housework. It's so hard to keep on top of everything! Hubby helps a lot, but we have 5 kids and the mess is always there.
@jrose424 what type of show do you enjoy? I have a wide range so I'll give my random favorites: the Great British Baking Show, the Expanse (sci Fi), Wheel of Time(fantasy), Shadow and Bone (fantasy), Lego Masters... That's all I can think of at the moment...
