Someone suggested the idea of doing an AMA check-in, so this is a thread for all the expecting mamas who will be 35+ when their babies are born. We can also change it to weekly if people want to check in more often.

Re: AMA Check-in October
2. FTM / STM+? If STM+, is this your first AMA? Third time mom, 1st AMA
3. Best/worst thing about being AMA? I worry so much this time. Never did with my DD's, had MS all day every day so I just knew nothing was wrong (along with all the other symptoms) This time around I count myself blessed that I don't have much going on yet at 6wks but that also worries me. I'm excited to have a baby with older kids, my youngest will be 9 when this one comes. I get to have a little more focus on a baby, less worry about jobs and money and see older kids loving on a squish.
4. Thoughts/concerns/questions for the group? I know its mostly normal but the cramping and spotting worries me so much. I know there is nothing that can but done but sit and wait. I had a couple days last week and again last night and today. Its more red today. I don't feel like calling the Dr because I feel like they will just say what I know, its mostly normal and nothing can be done about it so just wait til your appt. (nov 13th)
2. FTM / STM+? If STM+, is this your first AMA? Third; my other 2 were born before I was 30.
3. Best/worst thing about being AMA? I'm more chill this time around. I'm content to let my body do its thing and am not too concerned about all the changes. I'm probably in the best shape of my life and know I can get here again. My kids will be 5 and 8 when baby is born, so I'm hoping bringing in a new baby will be much smoother than if my kids were toddlers/preschoolers.
I live in the South, where people tend to have babies younger, so I guess I'm a little concerned that I'll be sticking out as an "old" mom.
4. Thoughts/concerns/questions for the group? idk whether to do the NIPT testing or not. From my understanding, the results are not completely conclusive. I'd like to be aware of any conditions if there are any, but don't want to worry unnecessarily throughout the whole pregnancy.
DS1: May 2016
DS2: Jan 2019
Baby #3 EDD: 6/18/24
2. FTM / STM+? If STM+, is this your first AMA? 4th (I have a 3, 5, and 7 year old). I was technically AMA with my last, but turned 35 just a few months before I had him. I think NIPT was covered by insurance but otherwise it felt similar to my other two.
3. Best/worst thing about being AMA? Worst—some anxiety around genetic conditions and complications that are more likely as we age. Also, most of my friends are done having kids so I feel a bit alone. Best—I know what to expect.
4. Thoughts/concerns/questions for the group? I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m deciding between sticking with my midwife group or moving to an OB. I love my midwives, but I want to make sure I get the extra monitoring (and potentially the option to induce at 39 weeks).
2. FTM / STM+? If STM+, is this your first AMA? STM and second time AMA
3. Best/worst thing about being AMA? Best thing is definitely the extra ultrasounds to see baby, worst is being called AMA 😂
4. Thoughts/concerns/questions for the group? No questions but some thoughts: I know lots and lots of AMA mamas and their pregnancies turned out fine and their babies are happy and healthy! It’s extremely common where I live (but not where I grew up so I understand how that can be too). There are definitely some increased risk with being AMA but I think it gets overblown sometimes!
2. FTM / STM+? If STM+, is this your first AMA? FTM
3. Best/worst thing about being AMA? I’m with @curlyandpreggo, the worst is being called AMA 😂. Essentially all of my friends didn’t start having kids until mid to late 30s, so among my friends, doesn’t feel weird at all, but I recently moved to a city where most people start having kids very early, so I worry about making mom friends here. Our parents are older and do not live in our city, so we do not expect any family help with care, but we have financially planned for child care (that shit’s expensive!). Best? I’m in a high stress career and finally to a place of greater stability and my partner is similarly getting to a more stable place in his career as well. I know it will still be a lot, but I think we have a lot more capacity to handle having kids now.
4. Thoughts/concerns/questions for the group? how do you make new pregnant and new mom friends in your town/city?
