2nd Trimester

So many tests.. and so much stress..

I was told my whole life I would never experience childbirth, I have SEVERE hypothyroidism, and was pre-diabetic prior to getting pregnant, as well as being ‘overweight’. My obgyn is now checking me for preeclampsia, due to my terrible headaches, and new onset of hypertension.. im terrified, she also has me meeting with a high risk team, and doing an early gestational diabetes screening. I’m 16 weeks and this is my first ever pregnancy, and just so stressed and so scared, i just want my baby to be healthy.. is there any advice??

Re: So many tests.. and so much stress..

  • Hi there! Headaches are totally normal in the second trimester (I also started to develop these but realized it was mostly connected to when I don’t take my b6 supplement for a day or two). Gestational diabetes testing around this time frame is also totally normal, I’m pretty sure I had mine around 18wks during my first pregnancy and I had zero health concerns.

The good thing here is that if you are high risk, your OB is already ahead of the game by completing all of the necessary tests and getting you connected with the right team. I’d rather be low risk with a high risk care team and protocol than potentially high risk and have things overlooked. Take it one day at a time mama, there’s nothing you can do but follow your providers recommendations and try to take care of yourself mentally/physically/spiritually during this time of uncertainty.
