Pregnant after 35

Big baby?? Anyone? Help!

:# So I’m currently 37+5 & babygirl is 7lb10oz already. Trying tolac but would like to know can I ask to be induced? Doc said if by 39 weeks I don’t start labor it’s a c section. I really want to have this bby vag. Has anyone else gone through this? What options did they give you. Btw on the 28th I was 1cm dilated and doc will confirm if vaginal or c section until the 7th. The wait is killing me since this is the biggest I’ve been and I just want this baby out!

Re: Big baby?? Anyone? Help!

  • They were predicting that my son would be 10+ pounds. I wanted to deliver vaginally if possible and told them I'd be happy to induce early if it meant avoiding a c section. No induction was scheduled, but I did every home remedy you've heard of to induce labor. I even got a membrane sweep at 39 weeks. My son came 4 days early and was a little over 8 pounds. Apparently guessing weight based on an ultrasound is just that, a guess. If you want to try vaginally you should advocate for that. As long as you and the baby are safe I think you should at least try.

I can hear your anxiety. It’s going to be okay.

First off, they have ZERO ways of telling you definitively how much your baby weighs. Ultrasound is a guess and they are often wrong. Secondly, your baby is at a very natural weight at that estimate. There is nothing to fear. If you have a doctor who is feeding you fear, tell them to f-off.
Thirdly, it is rare that a woman’s body is not fully capable of delivering even a very large baby. Get educated and get confident. Read Gentle Birth Choices or Guide to Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin or just YouTube Ina May…

I would not interfere with nature. Your body is made to deliver many sizes of babies and sometimes bigger babies are very easy deliveries. More education will eliminate your fear and help you feel prepared.
As for just wanting the baby out, there are many important things happening including brain and lung development and receptors needed for a coordinated labor and delivery. There are a thousand reasons to be patient and support your body’s natural process.
Technology is not the hero, though it may seem so to a scared mom. Interventions only lead to more complications and more interventions.
