Trying to Get Pregnant

I think I'm having a chemical pregnancy... help?

I was intimate with my husband on the 11th September, but I don't know when I ovulated. I am on the copper coil and started getting pregnancy symptoms. I then got a faint positive on both first responses and clear blue ultra early tests. I've been tracking line progression but I'm worried it's not progressing 🥺

I hadn't obviously planned to be pregnant, I wanted to wait a year or so. But since getting positive tests, I can't help but hope baby sticks. I feel so torn and so low...

My first faint positive was on September 22nd. But I just don't feel the line has come along at all. Any advice? Has this happened to anyone else? Or did it end in a chemical?

Not sure how to add image 🤔

  • Congratulations on your pregnancy. The place to post about this would be in the first trimester board here: https://forums.thebump.com/categories/1st-trimester. There is even a thread just for positive pregnancy tests.

If you have a copper IUD it's important you see an OBGYN right away so they can see where your pregnancy and IUD are located to see if it can be safely removed. Pregnancy with an IUD also comes with higer risk of ectopic pregnancy, so please see your provider soon. They are also able to do blood tests to see if you pregnancy is progressing appropriately.

  • It is possible that you are having a chemical pregnancy, but it is also possible that your pregnancy is still very early and your line progression is normal. Chemical pregnancies are very common, and they occur when a fertilized egg implants in the uterus but does not develop properly. This can happen for a variety of reasons.

If you are concerned about your line progression, the best thing to do is to see a doctor. They can perform a blood test to measure your hCG levels and get a better idea of how your pregnancy is progressing.

If you are having a chemical pregnancy, it is important to be patient with yourself and allow yourself time to grieve. Chemical pregnancies can be very emotionally difficult, even if you were not planning on being pregnant.
