We are getting some rain today and I am so here for it! I don't think I've ever been more happy for soups and tea and baked things and sweaters and blankets 🥰 We go back to sunny weather almost right away, but it's still nice to get a little bit!

@hedgepig we are also getting some rain and at first I was excited about it because we really need it and then I had to sit outside in it for my kids soccer games this weekend and practice today😫. I’m over it now lol. Yay to all the other fall stuff though.
Is anyone into audiobooks? (Or regular ones too I guess) We have a huge consignment sale in 2 weeks and I want to put all the boy clothes I’ve saved for the last 5 years into it to fund some girl stuff since we are done after this and I have zero motivation to tag it all for the sale. I need something good to listen to. Any suggestions? Open to podcasts too. Thanks!!
@hedgepig true crime, thriller, mystery, science fiction, fantasy, romance. Something that’s easy to follow probably because I’ll be distracted listening while tagging stuff. I don’t generally do audio books for myself because my kids are always around and I don’t want to scar them with the true crime or romance😂
@kmw611 For something that you don't really have to listen to - I enjoyed Gail Carrigan's Soulless (Jane Austen plus supernatural plus steampunk and romance). It was silly and frivolous and fun and would be good because you don't have to listen closely.
For recent stuff that I really loved - Becky Chambers' Wayfarers series for fun, but thought provoking sci fi, and Fonda Lee's Greenbones Saga for fantasy that is a mix of gangster/mob boss, ninjas, magic and political intrigue set in a fictional Asian country.
@SpartanCat I'm not usually a romance reader, although not opposed either, but am here for urban fantasy recs!

So my mother thought it’d be hilarious to tell me my dad ate my piece of German cake, I lost it.. like tears and everything 🤣🤣🤣🤣 for reference, currently living with parents until we get a house
@hedgepig@kmw611 UF, you got it! So these are all MM, they have few seggsy graphic scenes but are very story focused ( I hate porn-with-a-plot books)
Soulbound Series by Hailey Turner - UF set in New York. Mages and shifters and literally every pantheon of deities. Overarching plot for seven books, bit gritty. I've heard her Metahuman files books are really good but they had too much seggsy times for me, I didn't get very far into the series. She does have a newer series out that's UF focused and not romance focused but I'm waiting for book three to come out before I read them.
San Amaro Investigations by Kai Butler - UF set in California, main character (MC) is fae and tangles with the fae courts a bunch, overarching plot for seven books, one of my favorite narrators 😍
Arcane Hearts by Nazri Noor - UF set in magic realm but they visit earth, I think the world building and magic is really well done, Jackson is a lovable almost himbo and one of my favorite characters and that means a lot coming from me who never can keep characters straight after I'm done reading the book. Another very good narrator, overarching story line for seven books I think? Maybe 8.
Nazri Noor has several other serieseses that are not really MM, I've been going through Darkling Mage. He makes little asides that are kind of fourth wall breaky and makes me think of Ryan Reynolds for some reason haha
Well there are a few favorites! Let me know if you check them out 😊
@alexxajams oh no! I hope they felt bad lol I feel like I'm on the knife's edge of tears all the time
@kmw611 I’m reading The Only One Left by Riley Sager right now and really like it. It’s a thriller. Im a slow reader and do maybe 3-4 books/year. I also loved the Shadow & Bone series. More young-adult but so good!
@night_nurse My SIL loves the Leigh Bardugo (Shadow and Bone, Six of Crows) books and I almost recommended them here too foe fast paced, easy reads that you don't need to give your whole attention to.

@hedgepig Read the whole shadow and bone series in 2 weeks my last postpartum. Just me, my baby, and my kindle. Only time i’ve been a fast reader in my life.
I highly recommend the Mercedes Thompson series. It's about a coyote shapeshifter trying to survive in the world of werewolves, fae and vampires. Really fun read, especially like if you like fantasy and romance (although the romance doesn't really show up until some of the leader books). I'm also addicted to podcasts, so I'm better off not making recommendations, because they would be like over 30 in the list. But if you want some of my fiction story podcasts let me know.
I know I've not been super active here, it's a combination of being ridiculously busy, but also feeling a little disconnected from this pregnancy. I don't know if that's anything any of the other 4th or 5th time mamas are feeling. My husband thinks it's just cuz I've been too busy to realize that I'm pregnant. I'm beginning to feel some flutters, so I'm hoping once there's more consistent movement to the connection will come.
Thank you all for all these recommendations! I’m going to see what’s available at my library/on Libby and go from there.
@alexxajams how mean! I would definitely have cried.
@mrosek91 I’d take some podcast recommendations. I just caught up to my favorite (Morbid) while I was prepping stuff last night.
Small rant- had my 16 week appointment today and they were running late, not surprising as it was a 245 appointment and afternoons are always terrible for appointments. Anyway, I told my kids to pack entertainment because it would likely be a long wait and my 7yo ignored me and proceeded to complain the entire time we waited for the midwife to come in. Over an hour after I was roomed she comes in and was like hi I’m so and so, I don’t actually have anything to talk to you about so did you have any questions for me? No? Ok you can go then…wtaf. No examination of any kind outside the medical assistant who roomed me checking my blood pressure and did the Doppler for heartbeat. What a waste of time.
@kmw611 that is my biggest gripe with traditional OB/midwife offices. God forbid you get childcare and then are stuck there for hours. Why is it like that?! Do they overbook every appt time? And why even make you come in for NOTHING
I'm here for all the book recommendations! I mostly like to read horror/thriller, true crime, or memoirs but I've been trying to branch out a little bit this year and read some fantasy/romance/spicy books. My last pregnancy/postpartum I read all of Karin Slaughter's books and enjoyed all of them, especially the Will Trent Series (they're crime/thriller novels). She has a new book out I'm about to read.
@night_nurse I put The Only One Left on hold at the library it must be good because it has a long wait.
ok, here are my fiction podcasts (I was going to label genre, but then I realized most are comedy)- Employees only - in the breakroom of a big box store, great to listen to if you keep zoning in and out because there is no narrative through line, but pretty new, so not a lot of backlog yet Join the Party - An actual play D&D podcast, the first season is a pretty standard high fantasy story, but season 2 is a superheros story, and they're currently in season 2 which is a pirate story The Kingmaker histories - no idea how to describe it, but it's a ton of fun. I guess best would be a mockumentary of a fake history in an alternate universe where there is magic Mansfield mysteries - mother and daughter duos solve crime, one murder per season, just started season 2 Marsfall - follows a colony on Mars Unwell - gothic horror story about a town in Ohio where a woman goes to take care of her mom who broke her leg, and discovers all is not as it seems. (I don't usually like horror, but I really enjoyed this.) It just released it's series finale, so lots to binge, and no wait The Amelia Project - the adventures of a death faking agency Arden - modern retelling of Shakespeare, framed as a reporter and PI teaming up to solve mysteries The Bright Sessions - Recordings of therapy sessions with a therapist who specializes in helping people with special abilities Brimstone Valley Mall - demons get jobs at a mall, set in the 90s Dear Bastard - an email chain between residents of a flat building in London Forgive me - inside the confession box with a "hip new" priest in small town America. Life with Leo - a mad scientist gifts her lawyer with an (illegal) andriod to help her find love Super suits - a law student interns at a law firm that specializes in helping super heroes Wolf359 - the adventures on a space station set to observe the edge of the universe.
That's not actually all of my fiction ones, but I hope it's enough. Don't get me started on my non-fiction ones. I'll be here all day.
