I know this has been brought up in other threads but was hoping we could dedicate this to all things pumps - brands you love, brands you hate, questions, suggestions, etc.
It's been 7 years since I had to use a breast pump so I can barely remember what I used in the past. I think it was the Spectra 2 Plus. But there's a lot more options though DH's insurance this time. I'm reading through reviews and all that and am completely overwhelmed. One option is actually the Freemie. Not gonna lie, a hands free pump does sound amazing. Has anyone had experience with the Freemie? Or really what's your experience in general with pumps?
Honestly, since this is my first time with one kid vs. twins, I'm really hoping I can make breastfeeding/pumping work for a while this time.
@UnwritteN12 I’ve heard that the hands free pumps are nice occasionally but they can’t get the output of standard pumps so it’s not recommended to have them be your sole pump. I haven’t used one personally but I’ve had friends tell me that was their experience.
I really liked my Spectra S2 last time. I might spring for the S1 this time.

@UnwritteN12 I didn’t have a Freemie, but I had an Elvie with DS3. It was more difficult to put on, and I didn’t get as much output. It was great for moments that I just needed a quick pumping session, but I hands down preferred the Spectra. I think I had a Spectra S1 (whichever one has the battery pack), and I preferred it for traveling too (pumped while I drove for work). I plan on getting another Spectra for this baby.
I've used a Medela, Spectra, and Motif luna. I have only really used my pumps regularly for the first 3 weeks with having NICU/early term babies that are slow to come around to breastfeeding. After that my babies have all refused bottles and so I rarely pump since I stay home. The Spectra and motif were pretty much exactly the same and I liked the motif slightly better. I was going to try something different this time just for fun but think I'll just get another motif luna.
I EPed for 18m with DD1 and spent way too much time and money on pump things 😅
I had a Spectra S1 (the blue one) as my primary pump and loved it. I kind of wanted to try a medela or something this time around but I’m afraid I won’t like it and then will be stuck with an old spectra… so I’ll probably just get a spectra again.
I had the Elvies and hated it. They became expensive paper weights. They’re so much harder to get on exactly right and then you have no idea if it’s working because you can’t see the output. And the measurements the app gives you can be wayyyy off. I didn’t like sacrificing output for the hands free convenience so I hardly used it.
I ended up making my spectra hands free by wearing it like a cross body bag with a belt as the strap if that makes sense. I would also use it in the car to/from work or events. I also only had one kid so it was easy to just pump at home with her. We’ll see how it goes this time… hoping I don’t have to EP again 😬
