2nd Trimester

Struggling

I am 14 weeks and I am still struggling with nausea and vomiting. I’m also dehydrated and my body just won’t retain the hydration it needs. I’m on an anti nausea pill twice a day and also get iv hydration twice a week and still can’t seem to eat properly or get enough fluids in me to stay hydrated. I’m really struggling…. I’m losing weight, I don’t feel good at all and it’s hard to even do daily tasks. I feel defeated and I feel like my body is not working the way it should be. I’ve voiced these concerns to my nurse and she just keeps saying well maybe it will get better later in your pregnancy. I don’t know what to do or what to think just feel alone 😢

Re: Struggling

  • It happens.  I know someone who had severe morning sickness from conception to birth with both pregnancies.  It sucks, it's hard and she was hospitalized multiple times for both pregnancies due to this.  Just keep drinking water and drinks with electrolytes.  Keep your doctors office updated, especially if it gets worse.

  • Thank you. First pregnancy and this is all new to me. I’m struggling really bad at this point.
  • Hi, I'm 17 weeks pregnant and I'm traveling a long way by bus. I have toxicosis and I am a little worried about how I will cope.
I think the bottom line is to prepare well. I'm going to bring lots of water, fruit and smoothies. I'm also going to bring a book or magazine to occupy myself. I think it's also important to stop every few hours to stretch and eat.

I know it will be hard, but I hope I can do it. I am very happy to meet my little one.
  • Hang in there! It can be so hard to keep good mental health when you feel so crappy. Do whatever you need to do to keep your mental health as good as it can be, and know you're not alone!
  • I hope you feel better soon!

Have you tried finding an acupuncturist who works with pregnant women? I was having problems and was down five pounds at 14 weeks. My acupuncturist listened to me and helped me so much. She recommended herbal supplements that I chose to ignore out of caution, but the acupuncture alone was enough. I was having severe diarrhea (4 days/week) which was causing dehydration. I couldn’t eat. And now I’m up three pounds with no diarrhea. I highly recommend finding an acupuncturist near you.
  • Any better? I felt like that. Found out I had a UTI and a stomach bug. But I also had to change my prenatal because it was making me sick too. I was down 10 lbs within a couple weeks. I had to get fluids last week. I'm starting to gain again now, 6 lbs since my original weight. I also have celiac disease and ankylosing spondylitis. I was sick my entire pregnancy with my third, but I get sick easily and have issues regardless. Surely it'll go away soon if it hasn't already. Hang in there. You're definitely not alone.
  • Sorry you’re feeling like crap. A lot of women struggle with HG in pregnancy and it totally sucks — rest and listen to your body. I know salty stuff makes dehydration worse but sometimes I felt like those little Lipton noodle packages were the only thing I could have that made me feel less quesy and I ate A LOT of ice. You can also try freezing pedialyte which might be more hydrating.

Despite what social media says a lot of women have difficult pregnancies so please don’t feel like your bodies doing anything “wrong”. You got this.
  • Oh man, that sounds absolutely awful! I can't even imagine having UTI, stomach bug, and prenatal side effects all at once, on top of managing celiac and AS. No wonder you felt so lousy. I'm so glad you're getting fluids and starting to gain weight back. Just focus on resting and taking care of yourself. Remember, your body is doing amazing things right now, even when it feels rough. We're all rooting for you, and you're definitely not alone!
