Looking for Name Help _ ‘Max’

Hello! I’d love to get some insights on a name.

My husband and I are expecting our first and aren’t finding out the gender, so we want to have a boy and girl name lined up. We both like the first name Max for a boy, but we don’t really love any of the full names. I worry that a lot of them sound try-hard, but would really appreciate any opinions!

Options we’ve considered:
Maxwell
Maximo
Maximus
Maximilian
Maxen
Maxfield
Etc. (pretty much all typical max names)

Also, the middle name will be James.

TYIA!

@knottiec90ce....  I went to school with a guy from preschool-senior year (and still see him occasionally) who was just Max. You don't HAVE to have a full name, especially if you don't like any of them.  Plenty of people are using traditional nicknames as full names now anyway; my brother's girlfriend is just Tori and not Victoria...go with what feels right to you.

  • I’m having a hard time thinking of some, but you could use it for names with Mac/Mc.
You could also use it for a girl, Maxine or Mackenzie.

  • Maxwell is the least "try hard" option to me. I agree I love Max but don't love the full names. I do think it's nice to give him a full name though and just use Max pretty much all the time
