product spotlight: strollers

Today's Product Spotlight discussion topic is STROLLERS. This is another item that may feel a bit far out to plan for, but since they're big-ticket items we may want to keep an eye out for sales and deals!

Any stroller recs and tips and questions would be appreciated in this thread! Do you have a fancy splurgy stroller you love? Eyeing a double stroller and need help picking one? Are you one of those magical people who actually uses their exercise stroller and doesn't just have it collecting dust in a closet? Please share!

Prior and upcoming Product Spotlights (since I dropped the ball here, I'm going to try and post two a week, until I catch up)

Re: product spotlight: strollers

  • We got the Graco Air 3 with out first, I loved the fact that if the baby was sleep I could just click the car seat into it and didn't have to wake him. It was also really light, and easy to maneuver. We still use it 7+ years later and it's great.
When #2 was born we got the City Mini double GT, and it's also great. A bit bulky, and heavy, but nothing unreasonable for a double stroller and it fits through your standard doorway when open. We also bought the convertor that allows us to attach the Graco car seat. We decided to go for the GT because we regularly go on a walk that requires us to go "off path" over some dirt and tree roots, but if you're planning on sticking to paved roads I know some people who are very happy with the regular.

  • I got the baby trend expedition jogger travel system with my first 7 years ago and still used it this year with my neighbors son while I babysat him for a year and a half. The car seat got damaged (mold👎🏻) when we had a water leak in our old house so I’m debating replacing that but I’ll continue using the stroller. I’m not a jogger but we do have a lot of hiking trails and decent but rainy weather year round here so we’ll spend a good deal of time outside and it’s nice “off road”. I also liked that it was budget friendly at under $200 because I was a single mom and super concerned about affording everything.

I am looking at possibly adding a stroller wagon this time as DS1 is nearly as tall as me now and DS2 will be almost 5 by then and getting fairly tall himself so a double stroller is probably not going to work for us. I saw the baby trend stroller wagon at target last week when the minions were at summer camp and it looked pretty cool with a car seat attachment and a kick board attachment so I could potentially use it for all 3 at once.
  • We had the Bob stroller that went with our Britax infant seat as a travel system with our first and while we didn't use it much, we did like it. I'm a bit of an outlier in that we hardly ever used the stroller - we don't have a walkable neighborhood, so I never took them for walks, and I preferred to put them in a carrier when we went into stores. If you think you'll be a baby carrier mom, then you may be able to skip the stroller altogether, or get an inexpensive one just for occasional use.

All that said - with twins I think I basically HAVE to become a stroller mom 😊 Any advice on double strollers is welcome! I am looking at the baby trend universal stroller frame for snapping in infant seats, since I will have to be doing school drop off/pick up from basically day 1 and we have to go pick up our kids at the classrooms (no pick up lines), so I will need to get them in and out easily. And I am looking at maybe the Bumbleride Indie double stroller for when they have outgrown the infant seats. It's expensive, but hopefully will one of our only big ticket items, and it seems like all of the decent double strollers are $$$$.
