Trying to Get Pregnant

IF Testing & Treatment w/o Aug 28

This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility, and it becomes a whole new ballgame. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this as an ongoing conversation.

Re: IF Testing & Treatment w/o Aug 28

  • I’m back! For a bit at least, and I’ll probably only be posting in this thread, but we’ll see.

    Diagnosis (if you've been): Unexplained

Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): Natural cycle with acupuncture

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Acupuncture and adding herbs this cycle

How are things going?: Feeling pretty good. A two month break from all things TTC (except temping since I always do that for period tracking) was good for my stress levels. Also my acupuncturist pointed out that my chart from last cycle didn’t have my usual issues during my LP, so it looks like the treatment is working!

    Any questions?: Nope

GTKY: If you weren’t in your current profession, what would you be doing?
I’d probably be a patent agent. I went so far as taking the test and getting licensed, but then some medical issues held me back from being able to pursue it more aggressively. I don’t regret it, though. I’m happy how things worked out.

  • Diagnosis (if you've been): repeat pregnancy loss, blocked left tube

    Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): limbo

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): I had an ultrasound last week since I (still) haven’t had a period since my loss in June. Tw loss / pregnancy

They found a “pocket of fluid” which they couldn’t identify. It could be retained tissue from the loss, it could be a second loss (never grew) or it could possibly be a VERY early pregnancy. That last is the least likely. My HCG is elevated but they said any of those three options can cause it.

So the plan is to redo the ultrasound in two weeks. If it’s unchanged we know it’s one of the first two things, and doesn’t really matter which. I’ll have another d and c.

How are things going?: Tw someone else’s pregnancy / my loss

One of my good friends and I got pregnant at the same time in Jan/ February. She was about a month further along- and is 36 weeks, having contractions and prepping for baby. And texting me about it.

So I’m mad/ sad but trying to be a good friend.

Any questions?: one thing the RE brought up was with my husbands age, the genetic issues may be on him, not me. Is there anything they can do to address that? I’m wondering is there might be a less invasive path forward if he is (also) the problem. 😂 we’ve kinda assumed it’s all me because we know I have fertility issues. But he is 46.

GTKY: If you weren’t in your current profession, what would you be doing?
I’d probably be a wedding photographer. That’s what I did all through college. It’s fun, but intense.

  • @britters314 glad the break did you good! And a patent agent is VERY specific and not something I’d have thought of.

  • Diagnosis (if you've been): PCOS

    Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): IUI

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): I went in yesterday to get the IUI done and discovered that apparently my cervix is allllllll the way back in there after they needed to switch out to use 3 speculums of different lengths 🫠

How are things going?: good, I've got a handful of ladies from different areas of my life that know where we're at with TTC and it's so sweet that they have been keeping track to check in on how my appointments have been going

Any questions?: we're probably going to be moving in the next few months. Any tips on getting ready for that?

GTKY: If you weren’t in your current profession, what would you be doing? I have a side biz as a calligrapher and would love to dedicate more time to that and do it full time.

@britters314 welcome back! I've never tried acupuncture since I'm scared of needles, does it pinch?

@charmedlifex3 wedding photography sounds so fun! I love weddings and that's one of the reasons I learned calligraphy

  • @charmedlifex3 I would guess that the least invasive way to address genetic issues on your H’s side would be to use a sperm donor. Did your RE suggest that?

@winterecho The needles used for acupuncture are really tiny and aren’t put in very deep at all. Some of them I don’t even feel when they are put in, but most of the time I just feel a slight poke which is more uncomfortable than painful. But it only lasts a second and then I don’t feel anything. The acupuncturist can always adjust needles or take them out if any continue to hurt after being put in.
