Re: Weekly Check In, Week of 8/28

  • EDD / Weeks + Days: February 24, 14+2

    FTM/STM/TTM+: STM

Baby is the size of a(n): Lemon

Team blue/pink/green: Blue! We had our gender reveal yesterday and it was nice. I finally got to find out what the last portion of our NIPT results are. Haha

Upcoming Appointments: September 15 for OB, September 29 for The Big Ultrasound, it happened so fast!

How are you feeling?: Slightly less terrible than last week. Last time my nausea went away at 15 weeks, so I'm hoping its on it's way out for good (although also last time it returned around 22 weeks, so hopefully it stays away too) I still have the exhaustion, but we also had a busy weekend.

Rants/Raves: I don't think I really have gender disappointment, although I would have been very happy to have 2 girls, I think I just have some fear about the whole circumcision/taking care of a tiny injured penis situation. I know it is very controversial on mom boards, and it is the one parenting my husband and I really disagree on. Really, its a small thing in the grand scheme of things but on the one hand I think my husband should get to decide because he is the one who knows more of what it is like to own a penis, but on the other hand I feel terrible about putting my baby through so much pain so early. I just wish he would at least look into it and find out why some people are really against circumcision and decide from there, but instead he just took a poll of his friends, every single one said, eww, circumcise the baby and so that was his decision. Anyway, I'm having a little trouble getting excited for a boy.

    Questions: I don't have any.

GTKY: Not really a GTKY questions, but how do you feel about moving over to the March 2024 Bump Board to get a little more regular participation feedback? I am okay with moving over there. It's sometimes nice to have more than one or two people's feedback and I feel bad when I don't get on over the weekend and someone has a question or something that doesn't get answered for days on end. Sometimes pregnancy is super stressful and feels urgent and you all deserve answers :) If people don't feel comfortable moving over there, I am okay with that too.

  • @dinomeetsjedi glad you are starting to feel better! Hope it continues that trajectory. My husbands was actually relieved we were having a girl because it meant he didn't have to make a circumcision decision (my family probably would have expected it, since I'm Jewish)! He actually did some research, and there is evidence of reduced risk of UTIs and a very small reduction in the chance of penile cancer and getting STIs. It was historically done because sanitation and cleanliness was a bigger issue, and this made it easier to maintain good hygeine. It seemed like the downsides were mostly risk of initial infection (which is low with proper sterilisation) and the chance the procedure is done poorly. Hope that helps!
  • We did a circumcision with our first. It didn't bother him at all. The only issue we had is that he had a bit of an inny for awhile so you had to push down on the skin to keep it from readhearing. We didn't do it enough because it wasn't communicated to us so we ended up having to do a very minor procedure to fix it. THAT can be very painful if it's needed when they get older but if you're vigilant when they're little it isn't a problem
  • EDD / Weeks + Days: 6 Feb, 17+0

    FTM/STM/TTM+: FTM

Baby is the size of a(n): pomegranate

    Team blue/pink/green: girl

Upcoming Appointments: Next Tuesday! Looking forward to hearing her heartbeat again

How are you feeling?: pretty good. Still not sleeping well, so I seem to need a nap most days. Getting light-headed very easily.

Rants/Raves: My mother-in-law sent us a list and photo of the baby things she's kept for the last 35 years! I was shocked at how much she still has. And some of it's handmade by my husband's grandma! Not quite sure how we're going to get it all yetm, but still excited.

    Questions: None

GTKY: Not really a GTKY questions, but how do you feel about moving over to the March 2024 Bump Board to get a little more regular participation feedback? It would be nice to have more perspectives, so I would be open to combining our months (Feb is short anyway!). I'd be interested in what some of the other early Febs think, as we're a bit closer to January.

  • EDD / Weeks + Days: 16wk 6days today

    Rants/Raves: nothing at the moment

    Questions: nothing at the moment

GTKY: Not really a GTKY questions, but how do you feel about moving over to the March 2024 Bump Board to get a little more regular participation feedback?  I don't really have an opinion. I was hoping to move to FB because I hate this app on my phone but whatever works.

  • @cioccolata16 I did know those things about circumcision, but sometimes it helps for someone else to lay it out for you so thank you. It does make me feel a little better. I talked to my partner about how we're feeling about having a boy and I think we both just have a lot of fear after everything we went through with our first, so I'm feeling better today to know he and I are kind of on the same page and the circumcision thing is just a small decision out of everything.

It's cool that your MIL has so many things after this long. My mother also kept a lot of things from when we were kids, but most of it was stuff that has been recalled or proven to be unsafe and she was hurt that we didn't want it so I was more annoyed than excited. haha. So I'm glad your MIL has things you are excited about and the things your Husband's Grandmother made are really special. What is the thing you are most excited to receive?

@spartancat That is good to hear that a circumcision didn't seem to bother your first at all. That makes me feel a little better.

As far as Facebook, I'm good with moving to Facebook too (or earlier than the 30 or so weeks that the bump traditionally seemed to move over to Facebook) my only reservation is that we only have 4-5 people that regularly participate here, so I want to give everyone who wants to move to Facebook a chance to participate and have the group get comfortable with them so we can all feel safe when we move. I also want to have a big enough group to move, because if we only move with 4-5 people, we won't get a lot of feedback and people get busy and stuff and fall off the group sometimes, as I'm sure you know. My hopes are that if we combine with March, we will have a bigger group to move and more people to participate and hopefully they will also be on board with moving to Facebook sooner rather than later. If other people want something different though, I am open to making a different decision. I know the Bump sucks as a platform. I only get on during work so I can log in on a computer and actually get it to work.
  • EDD / Weeks + Days: 16w5d due Feb 9th

    FTM/STM/TTM+:  TTM

Baby is the size of a(n): not sure haha

Team blue/pink/green: green is that means we are keeping a surprise lol

Upcoming Appointments: ultrasound on the 18th and dr again on the 21st

How are you feeling?: honestly tired and irritable but that’s mostly because I have a brutal headache that won’t go away

Rants/Raves: so ready for summer to be over, and cooler weather. I am done with the heat and ready for sweater weather

    Questions: not right now

GTKY: Not really a GTKY questions, but how do you feel about moving over to the March 2024 Bump Board to get a little more regular participation feedback?
I am hoping to get on here and be more active now that I am not so sick, I am up for anything with group location whether in FB or the March group.
  • EDD / Weeks + Days: 16+1

    FTM/STM/TTM+: TTM

Baby is the size of a(n): a dill pickle

    Team blue/pink/green: blue

Upcoming Appointments: regular OB on the 7th.

How are you feeling?: mostly just tired. Some minor nausea off and on.

Rants/Raves: I had Covid 2 weeks ago and lost my sense of taste and smell 👎 I miss tasting food.

Questions: not really a question, I’ll just do a little update. Last time I posted was a few weeks ago that our baby had a cystic hygroma. We rules out chromosomal issues and a few particular viral infections so most likely scenario is we are looking at. heart defect. Won’t know for sure until we do a fetal echo in October.

GTKY: Not really a GTKY questions, but how do you feel about moving over to the March 2024 Bump Board to get a little more regular participation feedback?  I’m ok with that.

  • @niwood0701 Yes, team green means you're choosing to be surprised at birth.

@ceclarlinetlo Thank you for the update, I have been wondering how things are going with you and your baby. It seems like the rule out of a chromosomal issue would be a good thing even though a heart defect is also very scary! Is it a better scenario or is it hard to say until you get more information in October?
  • @dinomeetsjedi at my last appointment I asked my OB a similar question - what update can we give our families now that we have more info? She said we can tell them the baby is looking better than we would have expected at this point (she actually said quite tactfully that a lot of the time babies that look like ours did at 13 weeks have died by the time she saw me again at 15 weeks) but since we don’t have an explanation for why the baby had a hygroma of the size that it did we aren’t out of the woods yet. So really just a waiting game at this point unfortunately.

  • @ceclarlinetlo Waiting is such a hard thing! I'm not really great with words, but I hope you are able to take care of yourself while you wait to check in on your baby and I will be thinking about you and your little one.
