Just diagnosed - Gestational diabetes!!

Anyone else have GD? I just found out this week 😩. My doctor was able to get me a Dexcom (patch on my arm that continually tracks my blood sugar) and I’m checking it obsessively right now! I’m below the numbers my doctor said, but an just worried about everything effecting my baby!!Β

  • First time posting, just updated my user name to alexandra330 (doesn’t seem to be updating on the original)

  • I failed my 1 hr test for the first time ever. I was only 10 above the cutoff though, so waiting to hear if I have to do the 3hr. I really hope not cause I don't do well with needles and being stuck and especially not doing it myself 😭😭😭

    Hi @alexandra330 !
Try not to obsessed over the numbers. I know it's hard, but a few values over the limit (less than 80% according to my doctor and my nutritionist) are okay.
I have been diagnosed with GD a few weeks ago. Mine was a little tricky to find as I had passed the 1h test. My doctor still recommended I do the 3h test, and as she thought, I failed the fasting glucose. I have to check my glucose level 5x/day (I don't have the patch, so it's finger pricking 5x/day).
Usually, you will see a nutritionist to try to balance your glucose intake, before having to take insulin. I wasn't able to reach the correct fasting value with just food, so I started insulin two weeks ago. Now, it looks controlled. I just had a growth US today and baby is not that far from the mid percentile, so everything looks good.
So hopefully that will reassure you a bit.

@andrawrmeda2 Wait and see the results to the 3h test. But if you're over the limit, you're over the limit even if it's not by much (I was over by 0.3mmol/L = 5 mg/dl only). I hope it goes well for you on that second test!!
  • I failed my 1 hour (also not by much) and had to to the 3 hour test. I took an not good with needles so the idea of sticking myself was a nightmare (not that anyone enjoys it or looks forward to it amiright?). I was devastated when I failed it.

The 3 hour one was a hassle in itself - 4 blood tests, 2 in each arm. I live super close to the Quest testing lab, so I was able to go home in-between and sleep/rest. Otherwise, I would have had to wait each hour in the tiny waiting room. But, the next day I got the results back and I had passed with flying colors, thank God!Β

A lot of people I know failed the 1 hour one and passed the 3 hour one, to the point my sister stopped doing the 1 hour and goes straight to the 3 hour. Hoping you pass! Good luck!
  • They are having me monitor glucose levels first and then they'll decide if I'm doing the 3 hour. I reealllly hope not. 😭 They want me to see the dietitian but I can barely get my normal appointments in, that's just not happening unfortunately. We have some close family that are diabetics though and have been giving me pointers on what to eat and not eat. It's still a hassle. I just want a whole tub of ice cream 😭

  • I got diagnosed a month ago, was diet controlled but have now had to start metformin to help regulate and they've scheduled an induction for 39 weeks so I'll end up with an August baby. Don't stress too much, follow the diet the best you can and know that its not a perfect system, what works for one person may not work for the next and the docs will suggest meds when/if needed β™‘
  • I didn't do the 3 hr cause I'll be induced early and the metformin seems to be helping. I'm still upset about this, but I take it as a sign from the universe to get myself healthy again πŸ˜‚ so that's one positive. I did lose some weight so I have no idea of that's a good thing or not 😬
