November 2023 Moms

Covid Booster Shot

Genuinely not trying to provoke anyone here, but I'm just curious how many mums to be have updated their covid booster?

My wife and I last took a shot in November 2022. Barring another huge wave (which seems unlikely) we dont plan on taking another shot. We are comfortable with this decision. But we wonder what it means for baby. I'd like to get some sense of how others are approaching this. TIA

Re: Covid Booster Shot

  • We don’t plan on it.  For us it’s a risk reward thing - we will be getting many vaccines prior to baby, but the Covid one just isn’t on that same list for us.

  • Honestly I haven't looked into it enough to make a decision about whether I'll get the booster while pregnant or not. I will say that it has not been offered to me, and I haven't gone out of my way to either get it or learn more about it (yet) but this post has at least gotten me thinking about it. My husband will likely get a booster prior to the upcoming cold/flu season, simply because he is diabetic and asthmatic so at a higher risk, and he's in a job with a lot of daily contact with other people (mail carrier). My kids have all gotten their initial course of the vaccine, but have not gotten boosters yet -- this is something we'll probably look into before the fall.
  • Thanks for your comments.
I mean, we are neither pro nor anti vaccine but there just doesnt seem to be much talk about it anymore. We live in Queens NYC so initially we had to have it because on any given day we could have contact with hundreds or thousands of people so I guess it made sense to get it. But recently there just isnt any mention of it.

What I will say is, CVS called the other day to ask if I wanted to book a time for a flu shot. No mention of covid though
  • I opted against the booster while pregnant, my last shot was dec 2021. I got covid at 22 weeks pregnant and it was very mild (no fever or body aches, just tired and congested with a headache). Baby is now 2 months and perfectly healthy. What I had heard was they would be more concerned w the flu (which I did get the flu shot while pregnant) as opposed to covid. Just my experience!
  • I've had 2 Covid babies - one in June 2020 and the 2nd in February 2022. I did booster my Covid vaccine in 3rd trimester for DS3, and I don't regret it. At that point, we had 2 kids in daycare, and no one in our house had tested positive. DH and I were already vaccinated, but I wanted some immunity for DS3. DS1 ended up testing positive the day before I was induced, and we brought DS3 into a Covid positive house 2 days later. For the timing of vaccines for DS3, I got my flu shot, then my Covid booster 2 weeks later, and my Tdap shoot 2 weeks after my Covid booster. For this baby, I haven't really thought about it, but will follow whatever recommendation my doctor gives.
  • I plan on asking my dr what they recommend. I’ve seen stuff about the flu shot but not Covid booster so far this year.

I’m pretty sure Covid just ran through our house but we were out of tests and decided to just quarantine as if it were positive rather than bother confirming it. But we were around people who tested positive and had symptoms so pretty sure. I got the latest booster last fall and had one sort of bad day but no fever or cough, DH chose not to get his last year and he was really sick for 3 days and still has a lingering cough two weeks later. Kids were also up to date and had a day of runny noses each. So if the booster is offered to me I’ll take it! With 2 kids in school I’ll do anything to help fighting the ample germs they bring home.
