1st Trimester

Strength training/gym

Hey y’all
I am 4w almost 5w pregnant
I workout 3-4x a week strength training. So I lift heavy! Anyone else do the same? What are some dos and don’ts?
Preworkout, protein powders, greens etc

I also have a very active job where I’m on my feet all day, I’m the heat, lifting heavy, etc. it’s blue collar work.
I have my first appointment at 12weeks.

  • Great questions for your doctor.  You can continue working out - but may need to modify the amount of weight you use.  There is nothing wrong working out, running, etc while pregnant.  Most doctors will tell you to continue what you are doing but modify a bit. Continue with your greens, that is very healthy for you. As for the protein powders, I would inquire about those.

  • I work out 6x a week lifting pretty heavy and my dr told me i didn’t need to change anything. Whatever i did before i can continue to do. So for instance not lifting then beginning to lift heavy, she’d advise against. she just said basically listen to my body and she’d advise nothing more than 50lbs overhead. If i were to start spotting to obviously stop and slow down until i stop spotting.
Spotting isn’t of major concern, but period like blood/flow is obviously a huge concern!

I’ve been listening to my body and just doing what it allows without being super fatigued. I completely stopped preworkout a few months prior to getting pregnant. It’s not great to take ongoing forever, and i figured the caffeine intake is a bit much. I didn’t ask about that, however, just the actual strength training and it may be different than your doctor’s orders, dependent on your health and pregnancy!

Moving your body while pregnant is great though and definitely helps with an easier delivery, You’ll find that some movements are just NOT it while pregnant, like ab workouts. just be careful and mindful!

    Congrats!
