What were the percentiles, compared to the overall percentile? I just went through a similar, stressful ordeal, where they told me at 20 weeks baby was on the smaller side, 16th percentile overall. Then at my repeat anatomy scan (bc they couldn’t get all the views they needed) at 25 weeks, they said baby had dropped to 14th percentile overall and the abdominal measurements were less than the 10th. So they sent me to the high risk OB at the major university hospital downtown for a Level II ultrasound. That ultrasound concluded that baby was actually in the 34th percentile overall and tummy was fine.
So, I completely understand the stress you’re dealing with, and I’d assume that unless they tell you they’re worried and want to send you to a specialist, it’s probably fine, and there’s a good chance the measurements are still within a good range. These ultrasounds can be notorious for being inaccurate—lots of factors can skew the data (I’ve read up to +/- 15%). I’ll be praying baby is healthy and happy!
Mom of a 5 month old here who heard the same thing! We had an extra growth scan at the start of my 3rd trimester (because I had covid in my 2nd trimester) and they said "she has a short femur". We started panicking and asked what that meant and they said "nothing to worry about, she'll just be on the shorter side at birth". She was 19" at birth (totally normal) and is now in the 30th percentile for height!
I had a scare too (Cincinnati). They said my placenta was a slightly globular shape and that I needed a follow- up to see if baby is growing well. I looked up “globular placenta” and the results were very concerning. In some cases, it didn’t resolve and indicated the placenta was insufficient. When I came back in 4 weeks, the tech didn’t see anything odd and my baby measured in a much higher growth percentile. Everything was fine. Sometimes technology is not our friend, and the medicalization causes more harm than good.
