How much is too much for a smart convertible baby crib?

My cousin is a first-time parent and she is giving birth to my first ever nephew. I want to get them a smart crib that's about $2,000 but will last the child a couple years as they grow (convertible) and that has smart features to help the baby sleep longer.

I have gotten mixed opinions from: what type of crib to get, how crazy I am to get a crib in that price range, past experiences with crib buying and full on support with my decision.

I'm sure I'm going to stick with my plan on getting the crib just because of the features that come with the crib BUT I would like to get your thoughts on how cribs are today.

I essentially would like your thoughts on what percentage of parents you think would buy a crib in the ranges of and why:

$100 - $800

$801 - $1,300

$1,301 - $2,000

My thoughts are

$100 - $800 about 60-70% of parents

$801 - $1,300 about 20-30% of parents

$1,301 - $2,000 about 10% of parents

  • I would guess more like 80% of parents would go for $800 or less, me included. Hell, my mattress was only about $500! That's great if you have the money and want to spring for it, but I'm going to save my money and get one for a much more reasonable price.

  • I agree with @bibliophile222
If you’ve got the money to spend and the specs on the crib seem well worth it, go for it!
  • I think that it's purely personal. Our first crib was a gorgeous wooden one that was probably in that range, 2k to 4k. When we found out we were pregnant with twins during our third pregnancy, I got a second hand one that matched for free on Facebook marketplace and you can't tell the difference.
HOWEVER I want to point out two important things. The mattress is far more important and worth the splurge. Second, not that you are, but for anyone who does read that I scored a free one on marketplace, make sure they have all the hardware and the instructions. Safety first! And never use an second hand crib mattress.
  • I’ve never used a crib, my babies sleep in a playpen in our bedroom. When they’re old enough, they get a toddler bed. I don’t like the space between crib sections.

That being said, I completely support anything someone does as long as it’s safe 😁 That crib sounds amazing, and just the right amount of bougie for me 😂
