Low lying placenta?

I just had my 20 week ultrasound last week, baby looks great! Growing well. He's actually measuring a week ahead of schedule 👶🏽 The only thing that seemed a little worrisome was my placenta was low lying..somewhere around 2 cm from the opening of the cervix. Any ladies have the same issue?

Same here! They expect it to resolve, but I’m so worried. High risk due to age. I get another scan next Thursday at 23 weeks. I have an anterior placenta and am on pelvic rest for now.

  • I've talked about this a bit in our weekly check in posts (feel free to join in there, it's a great way to keep up with everyone!) Mine is only 6mm away from my cervix, but it's still early enough that it's most likely going to resolve itself. In 98% of cases of a low lying placenta in week 24 or earlier, it's moved enough by the end of the pregnancy to not need any intervention. Just pelvic rest and extra ultrasounds for me for now!
  • I had this at my 20 week appt and it was resolved by 23 weeks :)
  • I have a low placenta too. The doctors aren’t concerned about it at all and all say it will move. I’m also on pelvic rest, plus no high intensity exercise that includes jumping or running, meaning no jolty movement and no heavy lifting.
  • Mine is low too but luckily it moved away from my cervix with enough margin to not be a worry. Doctor said most will move up as your uturus stretches up as baby grows. Try not to stress too much. It's fairly rare for a previa to stay that way until you're full term and if it does, it just means a c section. While it does put you at higher risk, women bring healthy babies into the world every day with previas and are okay.
  • Yep, also have marginal previa and am on pelvic rest. Hoping it resolves itself to get off the rest. Would really like to be able to workout before labor to build up my endurance and strength again.
  • I had a low lying placenta at 20 weeks as well. My OB recommended no heavy lifting and a modified pelvic rest. They checked again at 28 weeks and it had resolved itself.
  • I also had a low lying placenta at 20 weeks and baby boy was measuring one week ahead in size. I go back next month to recheck the placenta, but my doctor didn’t put me on pelvic rest or say anything about lifting and she really doesn’t seem concerned at all. So I’m kind of upset that she even told me because to be honest, I’m just gonna be stressing about it until another ultrasound and I am 25 weeks now so it’s already been a month since I found out and still don’t know if it resolved, so annoying. She said that mine was only 1cm lower than usual but this os the first time it’s happened to me and this is my 4th pregnancy, I’d hate to have a c section now on my last baby 🙃
