1st Trimester

Measuring early at 8W1D

Had my first ultrasound today and baby is measuring much smaller than anticipated….according to my period, I’m 8 weeks. However my OB said I’m measuring at around 6 weeks 😩
not only am I annoyed at the thought of having to wait to give birth longer, but I’m also nervous this means something is wrong???
I have another ultrasound scheduled for Friday for a second opinion but has this happened before to anyone?

Re: Measuring early at 8W1D

  • If you weren't tracking O and know for certain what day you O'd, then the ultrasound is probably your best bet for dating purposes.  If you are absolutely positive of the day you O'd because you were specifically tracking that (NOT just using a period app), then measuring 2 weeks behind is not good news.  Your ultrasound Friday is to see if the baby grows in the amount of time between the two ultrasounds.  If it does, it could 'catch up' some.  But, geesh, if you're 'annoyed' at possibly having to wait 2 more weeks to give birth, and that's your first concern/thought, you don't know how lucky you are...

Reported for what? Giving you information?
  • If it was just information, that would have been appreciated and welcomed. The last snarky comment was completely unnecessary. The Bump guidelines CLEARLY state any comments should be geared toward everyone having a welcoming and enjoyable experience on this app. The last sentence of her response was just so rude and unnecessary and unhelpful. I’ve never experienced anything like this before and all I was asking for was some information. No sane person is gonna look at that last sentence and think “wow, what a helpful comment.” Don’t play with me.

Someone took out time to explain so much to you in a very understandable manner, and you think she’s trying to be rude in one comment that if you read properly you’d have seen what she meant.
She’s literally saying 2 weeks extra is still a good deal compared to many other women. READ IT AGAIN.
This is why people don’t get responses.
  • I wasn’t asking for anyone’s comparison. I was wondering if anyone has been through this before. IVE READ IT MULTIPLE TIMES. And it’s still rude 🤷🏽‍♀️ the whole comment was fine until that last part. Notice how I haven’t said anything about the the rest of the comment? Yah. Maybe YOU should READ MY REPLY AGAIN.
  • Never did I once say my ONLY concern would be possibly having to give birth 2 weeks later than anticipated, and even if it was, WHO CARES? Maybe I have a reason why that would be a problem for me that I haven’t shared because it’s no one’s business. I’m concerned because I’ve never experienced this before and I am worried that something is wrong with baby. Goddamn, moms on this app are the most judgmental people on the internet and y’all are the same group of people who swear not to be judgmental of other moms.
  • You reported that?  She gave you truthful information!  Sorry that you want unicorns and rainbows - there was no name calling, no making unnecessary insinuating comments, nothing - cold truthful hard facts.

I responded because I HAVE been through this before.  My baby measured 5.5 weeks, and my LMP said I should've been 7 weeks and a day or so along.  But, I know that I have 35 days (give/take) cycles and was tracking using BBT, so I wasn't concerned because the baby was really only measuring a few days behind where I was supposed to be, and with it being that early being a day/two off isn't really a big deal. (again, the part of my original comment where if you're tracking vs using LMP)

But when I went back a week later to see how much it's grown and hopefully excited see a heartbeat, I was devastated to learn that it was still only measuring 5.5 weeks along.  My baby hadn't grown at all.  Then I was told my uterine lining was thicker than it should be, and that I may be experiencing a molar PG.  (meaning, that instead of the cells coming together to form a baby, they possibly form a ball of CANCER.)  So I was sent for a D&E, so they could test the tissue to see if it was cancerous or not.  Thankfully, it was a standard Missed Miscarriage, and not a Molar Pregnancy.  I lucked out BIG time there, in that I only had to call my mom to tell her I was having the abortion procedure to have a MC and could try again in a few months, instead of cancer and radiation treatments and not being able to attempt to conceive again for over a year.

I've had 4 additional miscarriages since then, in a saga that's been going on for over 8 years now, and am hoping to attempt IVF if my doctors would ever get their shyte together.... so yeah, sorry that 'waiting 2 WHOLE more weeks to have a living baby' makes me feel like YOUR comments didn't lead to me feeling like you were welcoming and encouraging my enjoyment of this app....  But if you only knew how privileged you were to be able to say something like that as one of your top concerns... and hopefully you'll never know what the other side is actually like, cause trust me, it sucks balls over here in Statistical-Minority-Land
