  I think if it’s something y’all love and agree on then go for it.  Where I’m from I’ve always heard of it as a boys name. But most names are gender neutral these days so, go for it :-) 
  
  I personally am partial to names with a good meaning (I didn’t look up Hayes) and that helps me decide. 

  
  

  Names are hard but if it feels right then you will know it’s meant to be.
