*TW* Post Coitus, just need some encouragement

I’m still panicked about my baby…..

Last night, I began bleeding during intercourse. We didn’t know until after we were done. He was covered, I was covered, it was dripping down my legs…. I got in the shower to rinse off and there was so much bright red blood…and what seemed like tissue had come out. I panicked. We called my mom to come over to sit with our sleeping children (my 8yo boy 6yo step daughter) and rushed to L&D and on the way I called the on call.

We got to L&D and they were so nice and understanding. I felt like such an idiot because I work in the medical field. And I transport people to the hospital ALL the time for silly reasons and I felt like this was one of them. But, they reassured me and examined me.

They listened to Benjamin’s heart beat which was at 145bpm. They did a pelvic exam and said my cervix is closed. I’m now on pelvic rest until my anatomic ultrasound Friday.

I am absolutely terrified now. Boyfriend is at work today so I’m home with my 8yo alone. He’s behaving so well and I’m resting today before going back to work tomorrow morning but, I can’t help but think something is wrong with the baby. I hate that I can feel him but it’s so very in frequent still.

This was absolutely traumatizing considering all of the diagnoses working against me this pregnancy.

Advanced Maternal Age
Obesity

Vitamin D Deficient (I live in Western NY)

  • @medicmomma6115 Did they mention anything about placenta placement? I had partial placenta previa with DS1, and I bled through most of that pregnancy. My heaviest bleeding was towards the end of 1st trimester, but I had bleeding all through the 1st and 3rd trimesters. I got lucky that it corrected itself (ended with a low lying placenta) so I was able to avoid a c-section.

  • @makingbacon I have my anatomic ultrasound on Friday..initially the placenta placement was posterior at the ultrasound around 10 weeks. I’m currently 18w5d. I did have a subchorionic hematoma around 10 weeks with bleeding. It stopped within a week or so. Haven’t had any updates since 10 weeks with ultrasound. They listened to baby and his heart rate was 145bpm. My cervix is closed and looked fine…

I had low lying placenta with my son which resolved prior to labor and delivery.

    it was absolutely terrifying.

I wish I could offer more reassurances, but I don't have any experiences with this - but I'm glad you got it checked out, I would have done the same. Definitely not a silly reason to go in. The bleeding has stopped, right? That has to be a good sign!

Sending you all the love and best wishes for the Friday appointment

Bright red bleeding and a lot of it is very scary and absolutely a valid reason to go get checked. Please don’t beat yourself up-it is not “silly” at all. I will scream from all the rooftops that it is NEVER silly to get something checked if you have a concern.

If the bleeding has stopped I would think that’s a good sign, but I don’t have much experience. I have had a fair bit of bleeding this pregnancy, most recently around 16 weeks, which turned out to be an sch. I was prepared for them in the first trimester, had no clue they happened in the second, was terrified, but got checked out and everything was fine. Hopefully all went well at your scan! Sending you all the best wishes!
