1st Trimester

Bleeding

Hello. Just found out I was pregnant a few days ago. But I've been bleeding a light bright red flow for 8 days now. I normally have heavy periods that start early, end light over about 5 days. This time around, I started off spotting... as expected, but it turned bright red and remained light. I use a menstrual cup and I would fill it about half in one day. On period on my heavy day I can fill that thing in less than 4 hours. But since I started this round, it hasn't stopped. I've also been having cramping. Some super light, done not so much. I took a pregnancy test the day before I got my BFP and it was negative... so I thought. Retested the next day as I felt like I was having a kidney stone and wanted to do a urine dipstick. As the test was running, it was looking negative. Then maybe at 3 min or a minute or 2 after that... there was a light line. Also found there was blood in my urine... but no other spike on the UA. So I sent my OB/GYN a message of everything and he scheduled a blood hcg and progesterone test. Did that Saturday and hcg was 32, and progesterone was 3.7. Looking at what levels I should be at... I should be closer to or higher than 5 at 5 weeks and at 10 or higher 6-8 weeks. It's now a weekend and my doctor hasn't seen the results yet. I'm still bleeding brought red and enough to where I just had to switch my liner (no longer using the cup). Has anyone else felt with this? All this bleeding and low progesterone are making me really worried instead of being happy and excited.

Re: Bleeding

  • I bleed off and on all the way to my second trimester with my daughter. More than once I was like “okay, baby is DEFINITELY gone..” nope. She’s now 2 1/2.
So it CAN definitely be okay from here, but I would protect your heart a little until you can do follow up labs and see which way things are trending. You could have ovulated late, implanted late, etc etc which make the levels lower.
In pregnancy your cervix is super sensitive too, and bumping it can cause bleeding- so inserting the cup could have been annoying your cervix which caused more bleeding.
Repeat labs- if numbers are rising at the right rate that’s all you can hope for!

  • Thank you for your input. I did not think the cup would have contributed. Makes sense. I've switched to full time pads
