Babies: 3 - 6 Months

First food!

My baby is 5 months and 2 weeks when I should start solid foods and what kind?thank u!

Re: First food!

  • Hi! Solids are meant to be given when the baby turns 6m. But if you feel like they’re ready before this then you can experiment.
It depends if you want to give purées or try baby led weaning. This may depend on whether your baby has teeth also.
With my first I started with fruit/veg purées and porridges. I then started blending my own food. And breaking down meals so they were smaller more manageable bites. Such as pasta etc. hope this helps!

  • I started him on the rice cereal around 3.5 months and just started him on apples,  bananas and sweet potatoes within the last two weeks, he's 5 months as 2/5.  There's an article on here that discusses it 😊
    Trying to Conceive Ticker
  • My 5 month old has been trying to grab my food and put it in her mouth for over a month now. I’ve let her try tiny bits of avocado, sweet potato, a mashed grain of rice; cinnamon and almond butter individually, sucked off my finger; yesterday she sucked on a piece of bacon for a good couple minutes and screamed when I took it away, same with an apple piece that she gnawed on the week before. (After the bacon, she has had two poops with little black flakes that freaked me out and I thought it may have been dried blood, but no distress or gassiness, so I think it was just charred bacon flakes).
I won’t do solids until she can sit up on her own and baby-led, but until then we’re experimenting.
