1st Trimester

Aspirin

Is it safe to take Aspirin in the first trimester? 6-10 weeks?

Re: Aspirin

  • Ask your doctor please. Some women are told to take aspirin, others are told to avoid. It depends on your specific scenario.

Pregnant women can take aspirin, but it should be used only with clear indications. Aspirin belongs to the category of anticoagulants, and it should not be taken during pregnancy without specific indications. Aspirin carries potential risks of placental hemorrhage and increased risk of miscarriage. Therefore, not all patients require aspirin treatment. It is only recommended in cases where there is a clear diagnosis of antiphospholipid syndrome, severe preeclampsia, or fetal intrauterine growth restriction.

During pregnancy, there may be the formation of microthrombi in the placenta, which requires anticoagulation therapy with aspirin or a combination of aspirin and other anticoagulant medications, such as low molecular weight heparin. However, if there are no abnormal conditions, aspirin should absolutely not be taken. Aspirin can cause bleeding and sometimes lead to miscarriage instead of protecting the pregnancy.
