When do you share your news with family?

I wanted to ask the group- at what point are you telling your close family about your pregnancy? 12 weeks seems too long for me to wait with immediate family and curious what others have done or plan to do.

Re: When do you share your news with family?

  • Hi!! This is a great question for our questions thread! As more and more people join, one off posts will become overwhelming so we are trying to stay organized 🥰

  • We told our parents and siblings at 6.5 weeks! We had a previous MC at 5 weeks, so we wanted to celebrate this pregnancy with our family as soon as we saw the heartbeat! We will wait a few more weeks to share the news with friend and other family members :)
  • For me it varied based on relationship my in laws are in the same state as me so I told them first. I told my mom because I talk to her the most but I plan on telling my dad and step mom when I get my first ultrasound because we aren’t as close. You do what you feel you’re most comfortable with. I was about 6 weeks when I told people
  • Thanks for sharing! I am getting an ultrasound at 7.5 weeks and may tell my immediate family around that timeframe.
  • I’m planning on telling my mom on Mother’s Day. I’ll be 9 weeks.
  • Mother’s Day! That’s a good idea!
  • We told our parents around 5 weeks this time. We had a previous MC, and wanted to celebrate/ have support early this time. We’re planning to tell our best friends over the next week or two (7-8 weeks) since they know we’ve been trying, and then waiting until 12 weeks or so to tell others and work.
  • I’ve been wondering the same! It doesn’t seem like I’ll get an ultrasound until the end of may and I’ll be approaching if not past 12 weeks at that time. I think for mothers day we are going to mail my folks and the Inlaws a framed photo of our kids wearing an oldest, youngest (x’d out and replaced with “middle”, and a onesie with youngest on it. I’ll be around 9 weeks the
  • We are 4w3d and I told one friend and one set of our parents so far. We have miscarried before and we had support and I wouldn’t want to do it alone. We will tell our two other close friends this weekend when we see them. And then the rest of the immediate family in two weeks!
  • @dogmom512 I hear you on the wine - I'm pretty sure that most of my family already suspects something because I didn't drink at Easter or my dad's birthday, haha.  We're trying to wait until the 2nd trimester to share anything though - I think we're both just paranoid still.
  • Just told my in laws and they said they suspected that I was pregnant five weeks ago because when we were by them,I didn't drink with them and didn't eat the raw sushi...I thought I was being discreet, but lol! Maybe I should've told them earlier...(10 weeks now and thinking I shouldn't have told them yet!)
  • I just told my family today at 10 weeks. They were ecstatic but I also thought perhaps I should have waited the 2 more weeks but oh well. It feels good to share the news so it’s hard to wait!
  • My mom was the first person I called when that second line showed up. I was literally shaking in the bathroom as I called her. Then group called my sisters. Then walked out of the bathroom and told my husband. I’m super SUPER close with my mom and sisters and I knew I wanted them involved every step of the way even though our child is like the 10th grandchild on both sides.
  • We told our immediate family at 7 weeks, but have only confessed to close friends who have guessed (water at a brewery was a dead giveaway). We plan to tell the extended family and friends after our first ultrasound and NIPT results, around 12 weeks.
  • I plan on tell my parents and in-laws when my first ultrasound is but unfortunately I’m in the same boat as you with it being at 12 weeks. I only have 3 more weeks but it’s killing me. Other then my husband, 3 of our friends know but they also know we haven’t told family and are keeping it a secret with us. The reason we are waiting is because my sister-in-law MC at 9 weeks and we saw how hard it was for them to have to tell people.
  • Were waiting until my parents until they come to visit in July which feels like so far away. It's the only part of my pregnancy they will get to be a part of in person so I really wanted to share the news in person. I'm just not sure how to tell them! Part of that depends on how much I'm showing at that point as well. We've told most of our friends but our only family member who knows is my sister.

We told our mom's on mother's day (wk 8) and we will see my dad in a couple weeks and tell him theb. But for the extended family we are going to wait till after the first trimester.
