1 week late but negative test?

Hi,
My husband and I were not necessarily trying to get pregnant but really not preventing it either and letting things take it’s course. I am currently 7 days late at day 42 in my cycle and having a lot of clear discharge but no cramps or sign of my period coming. I have struggled with PCOS for 3-4 years now and my cycle fluctuates a little but never this much. I took a test this morning and it says negative but I still have this feeling I might be wrong and I could’ve ovulated late in my cycle? I am trying not to get my hopes up and it might be just a hormone imbalance that’s causing it to be late but I really would love to be a mom. Any advice is much appreciated!

  • With irregular cycles it’s hard to know unless you are tracking ovulation. However a negative pregnancy test means you are not currently pregnant. Perhaps you still could be ovulating late and could end up pregnant but currently you are not. Depending on how serious you want to get about trying you could start ovulations tests or temping (which is the best way to confirm ovulation at home).

  • I agree w/ PP, stage 4 endometriosis here.  My doctor said same thing, temp and OPK if you are serious about wanting to get pregnant.

Test again in a few days, if your period doesn't come.  If it's not come and you don't turn a pregnancy test, in 60 days then definitely see your doctor.
  • Agree with this^^^

It’s also possible you are having an anovulatory cycle as well which could account for the late period.

I had several negative pregnancy tests in the two weeks after my period was due (I'm pretty regular). I started thinking something was really wrong with me because my period was just not coming and all the tests were negative and my doctor sent me for blood tests and I found out I was newly pregnant. Doc explained that ovulation could have happened later in the cycle so that's why.
  • Probably just test again in a couple weeks. It's possible you ovulated and conceived later in your cycle. If you're not tracking ovulation, it's really hard to tell if you should expect your period. I have PCOS as well so I feel your pain. Also, just an FYI that there is no such thing as an anovulatory cycle. You have to ovulate in order to have a normal period, so your cycles might be a lot longer than you think if you're not tracking ovulation and have breakthrough bleeds.
