1st Trimester

Have any of you taken medication for nausea?

If so, how did it affect you? Did it help, make you more tired? I have a doctor appointment next week and I’m debating asking for nausea pills but I don’t know if I should. I’m only six weeks and already the nausea has been quite bad so I expect it will get a lot worse yet :/

Re: Have any of you taken medication for nausea?

  • My doctor gave me doxylamine for the nausea. I take it just before bed and it makes you sleep. My nausea is mostly at night and early morning so it's definitely helped. I also did accupuncture for the nausea and that's helped too. Good luck, I'm at 10 weeks and the past month has been pretty rough, I hope it's ok for you. Things I've found that help with the sickness: eating regularly (worse on an empty stomach) and taking prenatal vitamin first thing in the morning (B12 helps with nausea apparently).

  • Unisom and vitamin b6 worked like a charm for me!
  • I just started b6 and it seems to be helping some… especially if I don’t ever eat a full meal but rather just eat small snacks throughout the day. I still get sick in the evening but I feel half decent the rest of the day at least.
  • Eating smaller meals more often helps me. Also mints when I feel a bout coming on helps to calm me down. At my last appointment, my doctor recommended B6 and Unisom. It has worked like a absolute dream. I went from miserable most of the day to *almost* normal after taking for just a couple days. I was extra groggy for the first day or two from the Unisom, but have adjusted now and am just regular pregnancy tired. 💤

I currently am taking Dicgleis (generic), Pepcid Complete, and Zofran when I am feeling super yuck. It did take about two weeks to actually feel human taking the Dicgleis. I got some relief from the first dose, but nothing like after two weeks. The Dicgleis is pricey, but I was literally in bed unable to will myself to drink, eat, shower regularly, or take care of my daughter for weeks without it. Totally worth it for me!! I played around with the dosing and ended up having the best luck with two at bedtime with Pepcid Complete. Zofran helps in the immediate need, but definitely need a stool softener with it.   I tried the B6/Unisom combo first, and maybe I didn’t try it for long enough, but it wasn’t helping me. I am too chicken to go back and try it at this point. Hoping for happy and healthy pregnancy for you ladies!
  • @mommy_times_2 Has your OB said the words hyperemesis gravardium to you? It absolutely sounds like what you are going through. There are two WONDERFUL FB groups for HG. The HER foundation also has great resources.

@OP I take zofran (zpoops are real, definitely need a stool softener) phenergan and unisom / b6, and Tigan. Tigan doesn’t help with the vomiting at all, just the nausea (I’d still throw up the same amount just feel better until I did 🥴😂🤦‍♀️)
On my third HG pregnancy. My second I had to have a picc line and many many hospital visits, but I seem to be doing better this time. 🤞 the med combo is keeping it to the point I can consume liquids and food enough to keep us safe.

  • If you’re absolutely miserable at night like me, Benadryl is safe for pregnancy and actually reduces nausea. Not to mention it knocks you out. I’m mostly sick in the evenings now, so while I try not to use it every day, it’s definitely done the trick.
  • I'm using pink stork nausea tea. It's great!
