Male Infertility and Clomid

My husband has Male Infertility his sperm count was 29 million with  7% good motility. They started him on clomid. Has anyone had any success with clomid and improving motility? How Much can the numbers really go up? I have been also taking clomid and We tried  doing timed intercourse for a few months with no luck and now we are on our 3rd iui.

Re: Male Infertility and Clomid

  • Clomid is not typically used to improve sperm motility in men, as it is primarily a medication used to stimulate ovulation in women. However, there is some evidence to suggest that clomid may have some beneficial effects on sperm count and motility in men with certain types of infertility.

The exact effect of Clomid on sperm count and motility can vary from person to person, and the improvement in these parameters may not be significant enough to result in pregnancy. It is important to note that clomid is not a guaranteed solution for male infertility, and other options such as intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) may be necessary in some cases.

With regard to your situation, it is encouraging that you and your husband are undergoing fertility treatments such as IUI to improve your chances of conception. It is important to continue working closely with your healthcare provider to determine the best course of treatment for your specific situation and to consider all options available to you.

It is also important to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise, a balanced diet, and avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, as these factors can also impact fertility in both men and women.

  • I am in a very similar situation with my husband's sperm motility being extremely low. We have been trying to boost it naturally by first starting with weight loss and a change in his vitamins. I also have my own factors including PCOS which doesn't help. I've been on Provera a few months now which is really the only way I can have a period anymore since stopping birth control a year ago. The IVF doctor gave us no other options than IVF which terrifies me but I'm not giving up hope. You are not alone girl.
  • Have you seen improvment with vitamins? After 3 months of him taking the clomid his numbers did go up from 7% motility to 15% but there was agglutination which other times he didnt have. He now went to a Urologist and this Doctor doesn't like clomid for men and asked him to stop and started him on Novofertil vitamin, The 3rd iui failed. The next step is ivf and I Wish we just went straight to IVF cause we spent over 1 Year just on iuis and with such low motility I feel like it was a waste. We have been ttc for 6 years but for the past year and half we went to a fertilty specialist. I wish you all the best and hope everything works out for you
