Trying to Get Pregnant

IF testing and treatment w/o 4/10

I didn’t see one for this week yet!

Let me know if I just missed it.

This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility, and it becomes a whole new ballgame. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this as an ongoing conversation.

Diagnosis (if you've been):

Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched):

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?):

How are things going?:

Any questions?:

GTKY: What are some ways you celebrate spring?

Re: IF testing and treatment w/o 4/10

  • Diagnosis (if you've been): RPL, my left tube is occluded, and apparently the lupus anticoagulant antibodies I knew I was positive for may be the root cause of my losses.

Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): WFAF following a loss

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): we are doing some genetic testing.

How are things going?: we were torn between trying again (medicated) and trying IVF. I think we’ve decided to move forward with the genetic testing on us both and if everything is normal, we’ll try medication again. My doctor was pretty sure the lupus anticoagulant antibodies may be what’s been causing it, none of the OBs had asked and of course my (older male) rheumatologist didn’t mention it as being a thing.

    Any questions?:

GTKY: we always go out and buy plants which I promptly kill, then buy round two which I am more careful with 😂

  • Loading the player...
  • Diagnosis (if you've been): unexplained

    Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): FET

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): FET! Playing the waiting game now

How are things going?:good! Transfer was Monday :) I’m in spring break this week so I’ve been distracting myself with house projects. Got the deck spruced up for spring and am unpacking/organizing storage space.

    Any questions?: nope

GTKY: What are some ways you celebrate spring? Plan out all the plants, put away my winter clothes too early, and break out the rain boots - a PNW essential
  • @charmedlifex3 sounds like a good plan, and yay for a doctor maybe figuring out the answer! If that is the case, did your doc mention how you might treat it?
  • @charmedlifex3 That sounds like a positive development. I’m sorry you’ve been through so much before they figured it out, but I’m hopeful for you that this will bring you a take home baby.

@halfanewt Keeping it all crossed for you. Glad you have some distractions this week.

    Diagnosis (if you've been): RPL

Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): Testing cycle with clomid challenge

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): testing testing testing

How are things going?: Feeling a bit deflated. Although my D3 FSH and AFC are not too bad for 40, I got my AMH back a few days ago and it’s only 0.4, which is in the “severely low” category. I have a sonohysterogram and hysterosalpingo contract sonogram on Friday and take my CD10 FSH test on Saturday. Kind of amazing that it takes 6 months wait to see my primary care but the RE can run every test under the sun in just 2 weeks! Anyway, just hoping I pass this clomid challenge test so that insurance will cover treatment. My husband is doing his testing next week and then we see the RE again in a month to discuss all the results.

Any questions?: So many. I spent way too much time this week on Reddit and PubMed lol

GTKY: What are some ways you celebrate spring?  Gardening! I’ve got my seedlings started and things are starting to come to life in the flower beds. I also bought myself a magnolia yesterday. I’ve wanted one since our honeymoon when I saw the Magnolias blooming in Hawaii, and now I have my very own 🌸
  • @halfanewt the answer is obnoxiously easy. I need to take a baby aspirin a day while TTC and lovenox while I am pregnant. I need to follow that protocol anyway because of my heart issues, but I’d stopped the aspirin because I had anemia (so was already bruising wildly)  so I stopped it, and the lovenox we had kinda back burnered since I was going through so much else.
Everything crossed for you! Also I spent the day flipping around closets - it’s 86. Annnnd it’ll probably snow next week 😂
@maggiemadeit we ran into a lot of issues of “you must do this before that” with insurance too. Which state are you in? We have done it with NY insurance before and MA this time- night and day!

  • @charmedlifex3 We’re in Mass. I think Mass mandates coverage which is great, but because I am 40 if I don’t pass the test they won’t cover anything. No pressure right? 😂
  • @maggiemadeit ahhhh. 😬 I did NOT know that. We are over by Boston. Currently trying to buy a house and it’s WILD.

  • @charmedlifex3 Oh I feel for you. My bestie is in Boston and had out in 3 offers in the last 3 months and was outbid each time. We lucked out and left Boston to buy our house on the Cape in 2019. If we were looking now there would be no way we could afford it. Good luck out there!
  • I passed my clomid challenge test so insurance will cover treatment! Woohoo! 🎉

And a considerably less fun update for anyone interested in the contents of my uterus…
     *TW loss*
I had my saline sonogram and they found what they suspect is retained products of conception (such a gross term) from a pregnancy that ended with a D&C at 12 weeks in February 2022. The thought that there has been a piece of that pregnancy inside of me for the last year+ is wild.

They want to put me on BC at the start of my next cycle and do a surgical hysteroscopy to remove it.
  • @maggiemadeit yay for passing. That’s totally intense. How you are you feeling about the finding? Did they think that was a factor? Hopefully this is the start of the journey to your take home baby!!! ❤️

  • @charmedlifex3 fx for your testing! A relatively easy solution is great. Hopefully it doesn’t snow on you and the closet switch can stay! I’ve been living in the same couple sweatshirts and heavy cardigans that I left out. Oops!

@maggiemadeit yay for passing! Yikes on the update. How are you holding up?

@maggiemadeit *lurking friend*. *TW LC, loss*I’m sorry. I know first hand how frustrating this is. This is what I went through last year, honestly I wondered if it was from my 2019 pregnancy as my placenta was very ummm… sticky… at delivery. Or any one of tbe 3 losses in 2021/2022. Anyway, no way to know tbh. That being said I highly recommend you discuss with your RE about a cd138 biopsy for endometritis and ALICE testing. It took me… 2 or 3 rounds of antibiotics to clear up the endometritis. Happy to chat more if you want to DM. That being said once everything was cleared I got pregnant our second cycle back to trying.
  • Diagnosis (if you've been): It used to be unexplained. I had a bilateral salpingectomy and SO had a vasectomy so I guess now it's N/A

    Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): IVF ICSI

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?):

SO had an ultrasound done to make sure there were no abnormalities. Now just waiting for them to book an appointment for the sperm extraction. I'm guessing soon I'll be given the briefing on all the medications I need to take and how to take them.

How are things going?: Good! Just sick of waiting 😒

Any questions?: None at the moment

GTKY: What are some ways you celebrate spring?

I'm starting to look for more bird feeders and getting more seeds. The magpies really enjoyed all the food all winter.
  • @charmedlifex3 @halfanewt Thanks for the support. It definitely feels like this whole thing is going to steal important time away from my rapidly declining fertility, but I’m also glad that we finally decided to see an RE. They are very thorough!

    *TW loss*
I think the idea is that this may have been preventing a new pregnancy now but probably has nothing to do with my previous losses.
I suspected retained tissue after my D&C in 2022 because the bleeding didn’t stop. My OB confirmed it with an ultrasound and tracked my HCG down. She said if there was no HCG then it meant the tissue had passed, but it seems like that is not the case. Slightly annoyed that she wasn’t more thorough, even though I am sure she did was 99% of OBs would have done.

@anniemarie887 Thank you for lurking friend. I’m sorry you’ve been through this same wringer, and I really appreciate the helpful suggestions. I will definitely ask more questions and request those tests when I speak with the surgical coordinator this week. So happy for you that you have a success story on the other side ❤️
  • @halfanewt How goes the distraction game? How are you feeling?

@tangiblycool Welcome! I hope your wait is over soon!
  • @maggiemadeit *TW LOSS* I completely understand the concern about losing time, it felt excruciating. I can also attest I had an HCG of 3 immediately following my second d&c which would by labs say not clinically pregnant… yet still had retained tissue. It sucks. The hysteroscopy to remove was much much much gentler on my body than a full d&c.
  • @maggiemadeit thanks for checking in! It was going alright until last night. Now just waiting for Wednesday afternoon (despite a 7:30 blood draw they’ll call in the afternoon!) and trying not to go too crazy…

Hopefully this isn’t too long of a pause for you and this clears everything up!

@tangiblycool welcome - hopefully they can get you booked soon!
  • *lurking*

@maggiemadeit I’m SO glad you are seeing the RE—they are thorough with every patient and it’s to catch sub-clinical conditions like this.  I’m so glad they’ll take care of it and I’m so sorry for the delay.  It sounds like you are in great hands, and have some great questions to ask.

    @halfanewt FX FX

@charmedlifex3 thinking of you in the wait for the genetic testing to come back.

@tangiblycool I know this was a difficult journey for you and YH before, and just wanted to say I’m cheering you on, so so much.

  • @halfanewt Thinking of you this afternoon!
  • Hey hey, putting this in a spoiler - read at your own discretion.

So, result came back positive BUT was at 11. They like to see over 50. Go back Friday for another draw and will hopefully know more then.

  • @halfanewt I know it’s an anxious wait, thinking of you and keeping everything crossed.
