Postpartum Gift for Dad

I'm sure this is probably an unpopular opinion, but I would like to get my husband a gift for after baby arrives. He has been such an amazing and supportive partner through our entire journey. We have been through multiple losses and eventually IVF and all he's ever done is support me physically and emotionally. I know a lot of focus ends up on mom and the baby, but I think my husband should be celebrated as well.

I am thinking of creating an advent calendar style gift where he can open a drawer every day, or as needed, for a little pick-me-up in the weeks following delivery. I have some ideas for filling the drawers, but am looking for other ideas.

Do you think this is a good idea? What would you put in the drawers?

Re: Postpartum Gift for Dad

  • So I'm not getting my husband anything for after the baby comes. I really believe that's MY time lol. But, I did arrange a weekend away for him and his closest guy friends this weekend(!), about 8 weeks before baby comes. My thought was, I wanted him to have one last weekend (or even just a night) to feel totally independent from responsibilities as a dad before baby comes. That way, he gets his time and I get mine 😉

  • My husband is big on bourbon and likes certain facial hair products. I’d say depends on what your husband is into if you go the route of an advent calendar. Small sample bottles of alcohol or full size depends on size, products he loves like cologne he may me running out of, favorite body product like soap bars (Sasquatch is my husband fav) or facial hair product. Gift cards to his favorite place for coffee, clothes etc. or even personalized gifts off Etsy or if your a crafty person. I’ve made my husband small DAD est. sign

As mentioned by casshax for a men’s trip. That might be a winner for a lot of men. A trip of drinking and fun is something my husband would prefer more than gifts.

It comes down to what your husband is into.
  • I think this is a wonderful idea! Glad you shared it. I may have to steal this for my kids, we have 4 other children. I want them to feel very included in adding another member to the fam, I think this would be great! It is so thoughtful of you to do this for your husband, as I am sure it has been a journey for you both. Congrats on your new fam!
  • I have to be honest when I read this my first thought was “the baby- the baby is the gift” and then I had a little laugh.

Very sweet of you to recognize him though. I agree with the previous poster that it depends on what your husband is into. Glad to hear he has been so supportive!
  • My due date is 5/13 and my hubby birthday is 4/30 so I'm throwing him a party with his friends at Main Event/Dave and Buster's cause he likes that sort of thing. Way to get out away from the stress of our first kiddo and before the second one comes.
