1st Trimester

Bleeding at seven weeks

Hello all. First time poster here. As alluded to in the subject line of this message, I woke up this morning, six weeks after conception, with cramping in my lower abdomen and very light vaginal bleeding. I made an emergency appointment with a gynecologist and a quick ultrasound confirmed that I am pregnant even though there was no audible heartbeat (the doctor told me it could be too early at this point in time and gave me another appointment two weeks from now). I was told not to worry about the bleeding as it was very light. But since I've come home, the bleeding has intensified to the point of being almost comparable to period bleeding and I am, of course, very concerned I might be about to miscarry. This is my second pregnancy but nothing of the sort happened during the first one. I will go and do a blood test tomorrow, as prescribed, but I was wondering of something similar had already happened to anyone on here without it being the sign of a miscarriage ?

Thanks for reading. Wish you all a smooth pregnancy.

  • If they did a transvaginal ultrasound that can cause irritation of the cervix and can cause bleeding, as can sex.  Trust the doctor right now, and see what the next US says.

  • I had bleeding yesterday when I wiped. It was dark red. Enough for a tiny bit to get on the pad but it has since stopped. I had an ultrasound today and baby is fine. It’s grown appropriately since the last scan just 3 days ago and had a perfect heart rate. It looks like I have a subchorionic hematoma which should go away on its own. I’ve had losses before so needless to say I’ve been an anxious wreck. Another scan Friday we will see how things are going. Hopefully all is ok with your little bean as well. I never knew almost 30% of women experience some first trimester bleeding and go on to have healthy babies. We are most likely in that group.
