Vanishing twin

So I got my first ultrasound today, and I am 6w3d. I am getting another ultrasound next week to confirm my due date! The doctor let me know that I was originally pregnant with twins, and one did not progress. The good news is that we heard the living baby’s heartbeat! I am excited but also a little sad knowing we lost one. Is anyone else going through this?

    Wow. I’m really sorry to hear that. I’m sure it hard to process a loss you didn’t even know you suffered. Out of curiosity, how did they know you originally were pregnant with twins? Could they tell on the ultrasound? I’m so happy you are still hearing that heartbeat and got some good news today too.

    Thank you so much, it has definitely been a grieving process! Yes, they saw a second gestational sac on the ultrasound with no heartbeat or baby left over. She didn’t go into detail, other than saying there was a twin that didn’t progress :(
