For S+TMs:
  • What do you already/still have & pros/cons:
  • Carseat you want (& why?):
  • Additional questions you might want to weigh in on... Are you going for an infant carseat first or a convertible? Do you care about weight limits (low or high)? Or the weight of the seat itself? Can you fit three across? Does it fit in both you and your partner's vehicles? Does it fit into your stroller? How can you even tell about stroller compatibility? Where do you look for safety info? Is there other relevant info? Feel free to share links, pictures, and price.

Re: Product Spotlight: Car Seats

  • We had the Chicco keyfit 30 for an infant car seat. It worked out great and I loved how easily it snapped into the base and the matching stroller we have for it. DD is 5 now and in the Britax (either Marathon or Boulevard, I can’t remember which one). I love her car seat. She’s been in it since she outgrew her infant seat and is still well within the weight range. Planning to reuse both as long as they aren’t expired.

  • Nuna Pipa infant seat. Pros: light, dream shade is wonderful for naps, magnets to keep the straps out of the way, easy to wash and clean. I can’t think of any cons, maybe that the chest clip is a little hard to slide? We’ll be using it for this one as well.

I prefer an infant seat just for the ease of toting them around in the first year. I wasn’t really as concerned about weight limits with the infant seat, but did look for high RFing limits for a convertible. I use adapter clips to clip it to our Uppababy stroller. The wagon we’re looking at sells adapter clips as well. I would just check to make sure there’s some type of adapter available between your stroller and car seat. They don’t have to be the same brand.

For convertibles we have the Nuna Rava and the BabyJogger city turn. Nuna Rava pros: fabric feels nice and seat seems to be the one she’s most comfortable in. Super easy to install. It’s one of the more compact convertibles on the market (easily fits RFing in my smaller, 5 passenger SUV). Pockets to keep the straps out of the way. I can’t think of any cons.

BJ City Turn. Pros: it’s one of the rotating car seats so it’s super easy to put her in. It’s a very roomy seat. Easy to install, but not as easy as the Nuna. Cons: it takes up a lot of room (most of the rotating car seats do), so we keep it in our Honda Pilot and still had to move the seat slightly. No strap holders.
  • We used the Chicco keyfit for both our girls. I just need to trade in to upgrade ours when Target does it’s trade in event. I want to upgrade our stroller too but I can’t convince my husband to do it. I plan to use the same brand this time. It was very easy to use.

We actually upgraded my vehicle in December to fit all the kiddos. So no issues with fitting seats in now with having a third row suv.

  • With DS, used an Eddie Bauer travel system so used the infant seat from that. Switched to Graco (65?) convertible around 3/4 months when he was sitting up on his own. He’s been in that same style car seat since then.

we are planning on doing the evenflo pivot/safemax travel system and do the same of infant seat until sitting up then switch to the graco convertible. At that point DS will be ready for a booster so we’ll just move baby into the seat DS is currently in.
  • We have the uppa baby vista it was purchased as a bundle with the stroller and bassinet I love everything we got with it it is so easy to swap the bassinet infant car seat and regular stroller seat it also has the ability to convert into a double stroller so all I need to do is buy the converter package to be able to reuse everything I have for both our new baby and current toddler the only thing is it was pricy I had put it on our registry just so we could get the 20% discount only to be mortified when a friend spent the money on purchasing it for us 😳
  • We also had the chicco key fit 30 infant car seat as well as matching stroller for it to click in. I looked at a lot of “best of” car seat reviews and considered possibly fitting 3 across. We have a Honda accord, so not a lot of space. I liked being able to take the whole seat out if he was sleeping, to set on a cart for shopping, or in a restaurant booth when he was very little (this was all the before Covid times). I gave the car seat to a friend for her baby last September, and I doubt he’ll have outgrown it by august. While the car-to-stroller feature was convenient, I didn’t like having DS at an incline for extended periods. I’ll try to get a flat/pram style stroller this time or baby wear more. We moved DS up to the graco convertible extend2fit when he outgrew the infant seat. That was a much less researched purchase because we didn’t realize he’d outgrown the old seat. We are happy with it, except not a lot of beverage containers fit in the cup holders. Tbf, the cup holders are usually full of pine ones and other nature. The seat has a high upper height and weight limit for rear facing, so he’s still rear facing and doesn’t know any different. He’s never complained about being too cramped or anything. MIL bought a duplicate graco for a family trip a few months ago and she doesn’t really need it. She doesn’t watch regularly or unsupervised much, and she lives two hours away. She sort of jokingly offered it to us “in case we have another” not knowing that I was already pregnant 😂 Now that we’ve shared the news she’ll probably let us have it if we ask.
  • Wonky layout, I thought I could do paragraphs on mobile
  • We have the Evenflo Safemax (came with our Pivot Xpand travel system) and I liked it well enough. It's not lightweight by any means, but I liked the anti-rebound bar and it works seamlessly with the stroller (which we can use as a double with my daughter in the toddler seat, even if she's kind of jammed into it, or flatten that seat out into infant mode and hook up the glider board). I do have a Britax stroller I LOOOOOVE too (it's only a single so not sure if we'll use it much while this baby is an infant though...) so am thinking about figuring out if I can get some sort of adapter for the carseat for it.

For a convertible, we currently use the Safety 1st Grow and Go for my daughter. She outgrew her infant seat by 8 months so we got a convertible then and have been using it ever since. We made it RF until this fall, so flipped her when she was just over 3, but she's also bizarrely tall and it's all torso (we can get away with 3T pants still but she's outgrowing 5T shirts, just in length) so a less dachshund-y kid would prob last a lot longer RF in it. But the cover is machine washable AND can go in the dryer, which is fantastic, and installation isn't too tricky. It'll convert again to a booster when it's time for that. We'll probably get the same seat for this baby, just because I know how it works and it doesn't take up a ton of room, but are waiting until the Target trade-in event since our backup seat last time is now expired.
