Product Spotlight: Diaper Bags

S(+)TMs: Give us the pros and cons of what you have and/or why you want the new one you want? What brand(s)/specific bags have you used? Which one is best and why? Are you dreaming of any that are on the market now? 

FTMs: What brands/specific bags are you interested in? What questions do you have?

    I have a ton of diaper bags. I don’t use any of them. I use leather tote I recently bought as my bag for myself and the kids. I usually just keep diapers and wipes in the van and I avoid using changing tables so most diaper changes happen in the van. When I drop my baby (usually 9 months or older) at a nursery for church or something else I just leave a small bag with a few diapers, wipes, and a sippy cup. The lady at church mentioned how small his bag was this last Sunday and I was like, “yeah, he is baby #6. We just carry the necessities and don’t worry about the rest.” It works for me.

    We have been using a backpack diaper bag from Amazon. It’s called Ruvalino. We liked it fine but are ready to move onto a tote ASAP. Any good tote recommendations that are canvas and have a separate wet section?

    I had a backpack diaper bag with DD. Big pro was having both hands free when I was lugging it everywhere. Con was it wasn’t always easy to organize things inside or look at a quick glance to see if I had everything.

    We had a Jujube backpack/messenger bag at first with my daughter, but the top handle stitching started coming loose by six months, and as a FTM I practically carried the whole house with me when we left so I switched to a bigger Allcamp convertible one from Amazon at six months in. That one lasted until she was about 3 (including being a "personal item" on a few flights and getting the crap kicked out of it on our travels), when one of the backpack straps finally broke and I wanted something different anyway. I got the exact bag I wanted for Christmas (a Vera Bradley convertible hobo bag/backpack that's the perfect size and can be carried on my shoulder or as a backpack and still look normal and I LOVE IT) only to realize it's way too small to be a baby diaper bag. Aaaaaaaargh. It'll have a good 8-month run before I graduate back to a big bag.

    This time around I initially wanted the TwelveLittle Peekaboo hobo backpack, until I realized it's about the size of my Vera now. But then I found a similar one (not *quite* as cute but more functional size-wise) from MomInside on Amazon -- it's a tote/backpack/crossbody that's actually not terribly ugly, and is less than half the cost of the TwelveLittle one. So that's my plan, but it's going on my registry to use the completion discount unless it goes on a big sale before then!

    I just used a fjallraven kanken backpack (quintessential hipster backpack). I used wet bags to organize, but I’m pretty minimal on what I take with me. Diapers, wipes, muslin swaddle and change of clothes. Then a little toiletry back of things I need, gaieties, lip balm, pads in the early weeks. Plus a snack bar or two for me.

    Then once they’re older I’ll add a small chew toy, indestructible book and snack for them.

    I also keep backup diapers, wipes and change of clothes in the car.

    I did get a fancy diaper bag for my first. I hated it and it’s actually been discontinued because I’ll bet Little Unicorn realized it was the worst.

    Then for my second I was totally Instagram influenced and bought the Azaria diaper bag - la mere mini (looks like the Fawn etc). The faux leather did that peeling thing almost instantly. Not worth the hype. But I do still have it stocked as a back up.

    I used a Ten Little with my daughter and it’s been fine. It’s a backpack and I do pouch packing to keep it organized. I have diapers, a wipes pouch, a toy pouch, and one for eating out (placemats, bib, fork) and then throw a cup in the side. It’s always been not too much, but enough that I don’t have to repack it wherever we go. I also have a small little first aid pouch in the front (ibuprofen, diaper cream, hand sanitizer wipes). 

    I’m eyeballing the Lulu diaper backpack right now just bc I want something a little more durable (the zippers have given up after 2 years) and I like the way it opens. I could also see myself using it post small kids. I’ve never been too interested in the leather ones bc the straps always look uncomfortable.

    My older two are 9 and 11, so we haven’t needed a diaper bag for a long time. I used a messenger style bag before, and it was fine, but I’ve since gotten used to not carrying much with me. I plan on using a leather tote that I have, and getting wet bags to organize it. 
    @ccmrc143 we have the LLBean Hunter Tote that we use for everything - pool, snacks, travel. They are lined inside, so super easy to clean. Very durable and come in different sizes so you could get whatever size works best for you.
